A creative, self-motivated and highly organised individual with a vision for how a library can enhance learning in the 21st century is required to enable our current comprehensive library service to move to the next stage of development. The ability to inspire and challenge readers of all ages and culture is essential, as is the enthusiasm and energy to operationally manage an effective library resource centre within a rapidly changing ICT environment.

Core Requirements of the Post

In fulfilling the requirements of the post, the Librarian/Library Resource Manager will demonstrate essential professional characteristics, and in particular Create and develop the vision for how learning can be supported and extended for 21st century learners in a Third Millennium Learning Space.

Understand how libraries are structured and operate to implement effective lending and reference sections for all learners.
To have the ability to work as an excellent teacher with all abilities of students in different groupings and ages
To have a creative vision of how spaces can be enhanced and used effectively to encourage learning in the library and throughout the Junior and Senior Schools
To ensure reading and reference materials meet the needs and interests of learners and teachers
To develop the e-learning availability of materials for students and staff
To actively connect with the world-wide learning community to support a stimulating programme of visiting speakers to the school who will inspire learning at the highest level
To develop strong parent/community learning links
To develop and run induction programmes on Library Resource Centre for new staff and pupils;
To manage the Library Resource Centre’s budget ensuring “best value”.
To manage the text book loan control system, and to conduct regular stock checks of all resources

Conditional Offer of Appointment

Any offer to a successful candidate will be conditional upon the following:

  • verification of identity, qualifications and professional status;

  • verification of medical fitness (completion of a medical declaration).

The successful candidate will receive a salary and benefits that are highly competitive in the International sector and consistent with the status that St George’s holds as an HMC school.
