Job overview

Are you the right person to join us in our IB World School here in Budapest and help us continue our journey towards excellence as we develop exciting and innovative IBMYP and DP courses?

With the expansion of our student body, Budapest British International School (BBIS) is seeking an exceptional, innovative educator to join our community. BBIS provides a 'students first' education, where every child is recognised, valued and included. We are guided by the values of the IB and the mission of our founder: academic excellence by achieving more than you think you can. You'll join a small but highly supportive team of professional educators in a dynamic environment.

Successful candidates should have knowledge and experience in planning, organising and implementing a library experience programme. They must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher and have the desire to support the teaching of all subjects across the MYP and DP Programmes. They must demonstrate compatibility with the IB philosophy and the flexibility and commitment needed to meet the demands of an innovative and expanding school. BBIS has a newly designed library facility, and we are looking for the right person to turn this into a thriving area where students actively engage in collaboration, research and reading for passion.

The successful candidate's main duties will be, but not limited to:

  • Manage the BBIS Secondary Library
  • Promote active use of the library across the Secondary School at BBIS and seek ways to develop participation and opportunities for student engagement
  • Effectively deploy resources
  • Manage the facility and cataloguing of resources
  • Organise opportunities for professional development opportunities
  • Plan and manage the house competitions, including enrichment competitions/days

Any of the following would provide a candidate with a distinct advantage:

  • Experienced librarian
  • Demonstration of successful organisation and flexibility
  • Existing experience within an IB Authorised programme
  • IB recognised professional development for MYP &/or DP at CAT1 , CAT 2 & 3
  • Experience teaching both the Primary years and MYP PHE

Successful candidates will be responsible for working with the finance department to manage the budget that meet the needs of the library development and usage.

Formed 8 years ago, BBIS is located in Buda, the leafy side of Budapest. Our current roll of 416 students from 3-18 is expanding to a maximum of 476, representing many different nationalities.

Tell us how you think you could add value to our school and how you conceptualise the role of a leader. Please use the TES application form to submit your full details and personal statement.

Please contact the school office for any specific information you might require. You are most welcome to speak to our Head of Secondary for an informal conversation before making an application by contacting david.wheatley@bbis.hu

BBIS reserves the right to arrange interviews for suitable candidates before the closing date.

The closing date for applications is Monday, 14th April, at midday.

BBIS is committed to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare and safer recruitment. It will also check the suitability of staff to work with children. Applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced criminal records checks and overseas police checks (where necessary) and supply referees who directly manage their performance in previous employment.

About Budapest British International School

At Budapest British International School, we believe that a successful education is all about inspired, imaginative teaching, centred on the learner as an individual. We nurture students not only to achieve academic success but also to become true global citizens.

BBIS is an International Baccalaureate World School. We work with children from the Early Years who enjoy the Primary Years Learning Activites within our Candidacy Programme. This is the basis of their learning and then as the children become young adults, we work within the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma in our Secondary School. Our school community is made up of over 420 students from over 30 nations. We pride ourselves on a small family with big ambitions!

BBIS is the only school in Budapest to offer a Secondary continuum of IB-accredited programmes: the IB MYP and DP.

Our programmes feature an inquiry approach that aligns student interests with what they learn, thereby enriching their natural curiosity and promoting a love of learning. Our team of internationally-experienced, skilled and passionate teachers model the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and encourage students to respect themselves, others and the world around them.

A strong sense of common purpose pervades our learning community. We believe that trust and strong parental participation are an integral part of quality education and we see parents as our partners in their children’s learning journey.

Thank you for your interest in BBIS. We look forward to welcoming you.
