Managing Director (and Campus Principal)

Tresham College - Kettering Campus

Northamptonshire

  • Expired
Salary:
C£75,000
Job type:
Full Time, Permanent

Job overview

This is an unusual opportunity for a commercially minded person to join a college with substantial resources and the opportunity to grow its full cost and non-government funded activity to bring in more income and re-invest in the College’s future.

Tresham College is situated in Northamptonshire with outstanding facilities in Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough.  In addition to its more “normal” college campuses the College has a management training centre in Corby in the ideal setting of The Manor House and a unit at Silverstone heavily involved in motorsport engineering and training.  Currently these resources generate around £3million of additional income and give the incoming post holder a real springboard for the development of a wide range of income generating activities running alongside the more traditional education offered by the College.

If you are the successful candidate you will enjoy considerable autonomy and the support of the senior team as you decide how best to build on what is already there and extend the College’s activities.  Tresham College is ambitious to grow and be recognised as an outstanding provider of education and training in the region and beyond.

There are many opportunities that might be pursued from seeking additional government funding and collaborating with local authorities and other government agencies to secure contractual arrangements or going direct to industry and commerce to generate full cost recovery work from the many sectors and companies that operate within the catchment of the College.

You will come to the post with a commercial mind-set and some experience of government funding for training.  You’ll also have experience of building a training portfolio and have ideas about (and perhaps experience of) extending the College’s activity in vehicle engineering, management and technical training.  With such autonomy also goes budget responsibility and you will be used to working to targets and managing a budget.  Whilst experience in FE might be an advantage, it is more important that you learn quickly and can apply your experience to the issues profitably.

Application is by letter and CV or application form but you should first navigate to our website, www.druines.co.uk, where you will find more information including dates plus instructions on what to include in your application.  To explore this role informally then please call us on 03030 300131 and ask for Claire Owens.

Please note that applications close at the end of June 2015

Tresham Institute of Further and Higher Education is a large general further and higher education college serving the communities of Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough in Northamptonshire.  Tresham Institute also has a campus, Rutland College, in Oakham, Rutland.  The Institutes mission is “To deliver excellent education and skills training that meets the needs of learners and employees.”

The Institute has four main campuses one each in Kettering, Wellingborough, Corby and Oakham.  A major new capital build has just been completed at Kettering and in September students and staff moved into a modern purpose built college.  This is the first stage of the Institute’s plan to replace all its current buildings with purpose built facilities in all the towns.

In addition to the main campuses, Tresham also provides learning in town centre cyber cafes in Wellingborough and Rushden.  These provide access to basic skills and flexible IT courses.

The Institute provides courses across the 15 subject sector areas with minor provision in the land based sector.  Courses range from pre-entry to level 4.  Vocational courses are offered at all campuses and there are Sixth Form Centres at Kettering and the Rutland College.

Tresham is a partner college with the Universities of Bedfordshire, Derby and Northamptonshire.  It is also an Associate College of De Montfort University.

The Institute is a key provider of work based learning and Entry to Employment (E2E) programmes within Northamptonshire.  Tresham Institute Business Solutions (TIBS), a division of the Institute, provides bespoke quality training exclusively for companies and provides large local employers and small businesses with a range of short courses, distance learning and in–company training.

The Institute is Northamptonshire’s provider of Prince’s Trust Volunteer work.  Tresham’s award winning team successfully manages all the 12 week development programmes in the county for local disadvantaged 16 – 25 year olds.

Tresham is lead partner in a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in Motorsport and Performance Engineering, providing the first Motorsport Technician training in the country with a purpose built centre at Silverstone.

In Northamptonshire the unemployment rate is below the national level, but is much higher in Corby than other areas served by the Institute.  Less than 5% of the population have minority ethnic heritage.  In 2005 50% of Year 11 pupils in the county achieved 5 A*-C grades at GCSE which is slightly below the national average.  In Corby and Wellingborough the proportion of 16 year olds staying on in education is close to the national level, but in Kettering the proportion is much higher.  The Institute operates across an area with many school sixth forms.

The Institute has approximately 3,000 students ages 16 - 18, over half of whom are full time and 6000 adult students, the large majority taking part-time courses.  There are nearly 284 work–based learners and 86 E2E learners.
