Job overview

‘If developing World Class Schools with Outstanding Leadership and Teaching is your Mission, then join us in our Challenge”

EMLC Academy Trust (EMLCAT) was incorporated in July 2012 to establish, maintain, manage and develop academies and free schools as world class centres of excellence. The trust currently sponsors five primary academies, two in Milton Keynes and three in Northampton, is sponsoring Prince William School, Oundle from September 2015, and is developing the new build, 2-19 all-through Northampton International Academy to open in September 2016. Its aim is to sponsor additional academies within this geographical cluster and develop two other geographical clusters over the next three years.

EMLCAT’s parent organisation is EMLC, a charity established in 2002 to support the development of outstanding education leadership. The EMLC Group also includes Third Wave Enterprises (TWE), a provider of commissioned school improvement services. This provides the trust with a particular expertise in improving teaching and leadership, and a capacity and capability for building schools for excellence.

As a result of its growth and ambition, EMLCAT now seeks a Managing Director to lead this young, growing and ambitious trust and ensure it achieves its mission. Reporting into the Chief Executive Officer, you will:

  • Work with the Chief Executive Officer and the Strategic Board to set the strategy for EMLCAT
  • Lead and manage EMLCAT, maintaining a sustainable infrastructure, underpinned by strong robust systems and reporting processes
  • Take responsibility and accountability for the financial management of EMLCAT and act as Accounting Officer
  • Lead the relationships with academies and ensure high quality performance

With a clarity of vision and a track record of exceptional leadership and management experience, gained in an educational, third sector or commercial environment, you have a clear understanding of education and the challenges of improving schools along with a passion for providing a service that meets clients' needs and improved service delivery. You have sound entrepreneurial and commercial acumen and the ability to balance risk and reward. A highly skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills, you work hard to build successful relationships and network with a wide range of stakeholders

Most importantly, you share the EMLC vision that every child has the right to outstanding teaching and leadership in order to become the best that they can be, and are impatient to implement the vision to deliver the improved progress, outcomes and skills required.

In return for your commitment, energy and enthusiasm, we offer the opportunity to work alongside leadership and school improvement experts and be in on the ground floor of a ground-breaking initiative that is intent on making a real difference.
