Information for Candidates
Wanted for the Autumn term, beginning 1st September 2015, a full time dynamic, enthusiastic and passionate teacher of Mathematics with the ability to teach in Key Stages 3 to 5.
The successful candidate will have a Mathematics degree and QTS as a minimum.

This is a maternity cover and is for one term only – Tuesday 1st September 2015 to Friday 11th December 2015.

Polam Hall is a 4 to 19, co-educational day and boarding school, due to open as a Free School in September 2015. The School remains independent for the current academic year, and the whole staff are engaged in Ofsted readiness training prior to transition in September 2015. Accordingly, this post, will suit an NQT with recent teacher training or an experienced person with a maintained sector or academy background.

There will be over 600 pupils on roll from September 2015, of whom over 300 will be in the secondary phase of the School.

The Mathematics Department
Mathematics is taught at GCSE Level, following the Edexcel specification. At A level we use OCR and have pupils taking both Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

The Department aims to encourage pupils to develop the ability to think and communicate mathematically including confidence, enjoyment and perseverance, together with an awareness of mathematics both as a subject in its own right and in relation to other disciplines.

Mathematics A level is a popular subject and students are motivated and enthusiastic. The department is well resourced and we are focused on preparing for the approaching changes to GCSEs and A Levels, so an awareness of these changes is essential and this will be discussed at interview.

The successful candidate will

  • Be a practitioner who maximises the potential of students
  • Be able to teach Mathematics at A level
  • Have a track record of using self-evaluation and performance data to identify and implement effective improvement
  • Maximise achievement through rigorous monitoring, intervention and review
  • Develop learning and teaching within Mathematics

Polam Hall School currently pays staff on the Main Professional Scale up to UPS1. Pay will be commensurate with ability and experience within this framework and can be discussed at interview.
