Welcome to Coastal Lakes College

Our purpose is to ensure that all children leave our school as confident and informed individuals who are competitive and well prepared for a rapidly changing future.

We ask our students to be creative and imaginative, to be problem solvers and critical thinkers, encouraging them to think outside the box. We give them the skills and knowledge to succeed and to be active and informed members of society.

Our Vision

Imagine, Believe, Inspire and Achieve!

At Coastal Lakes College we are a proud, inclusive College that strives to challenge and support every student to develop a ‘growth mindset’ as a learner and a person. A mindset where students are encouraged to imagine the possibilities, believe in themselves, inspire others with their effort and achieve their personal best. The development of such a mindset provides a strong foundation for a bright and successful future.

Our College vision is underpinned by a firm belief that every student can achieve success if they are supported to believe in themselves, receive excellence in teaching and learning, build positive relationships across the College and benefit from strong partnerships between the College and home.

At Coastal Lakes College we aspire to provide a college environment where students and staff can flourish, feel inspired to achieve personal goals and college priorities, and are proud to be part of our outstanding College community.

Our Values

At Coastal Lakes College we prioritise the values below and the actions and behaviours that underpin these values. We believe our College values help to sustain a positive and inclusive culture and support successful learning, well-being and achievement outcomes for both students and staff.

Our core values are based on a growth mindset: the theory that intelligence is not a fixed characteristic, but instead is increased through effort. Our core values are best captured by the words:

Integrity

Creativity

Joy

Respect

Connectedness

Inclusion

Excellence

Pastoral Care

We are committed to the wellbeing of each and every one of our students.

Our pastoral care is focused on cultivating a positive environment that supports the physical, social, intellectual and emotional development of every student.

We believe that pastoral care and academic progress are linked and that a successful pastoral care program is a shared responsibility that relies on strong partnerships between the College, parents and our wider community.

At Coastal Lakes College, every adult on our campus, is committed to making sure that every student succeeds and grows up to be a fantastic young adult.

Inclusive Education

At Coastal Lakes College, we work to remove barriers to inclusion and support all students to achieve their potential.

Coastal Lakes College is an inclusive school. As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we have an Inclusive Education Support Hub (the Hub) that allows students with a disability to attend a specialist facility in their local community.

In the Hub, and in specially designed facilities across the College we are able to support students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, including those with complex health, communication and behavioural needs.

At Coastal Lakes College, we believe that every child should be welcome and have their needs met in every classroom. We believe that every child should have access to high quality education that allows them to demonstrate their full potential.

Our integrated approach allows us to tailor the education experience for each child, so they can learn in the most appropriate and least restrictive environment that suits their needs.

For some students with a disability, inclusion means spending a significant part of their day in a highly supported classroom environment. For others, immersion in a mainstream program with support and differentiation is the best learning pathway for them

Academic Enrichment

The Achieve Pathway is an academic enrichment program that brings together like-minded, high achieving students to accelerate their learning across all areas of the curriculum while fostering the development of their social and emotional needs.

This pathway will provide students with a learning environment that will both engage and extend them, allowing them to explore the curriculum in more detail. We will ask your child to be creative and imaginative, to be a problem solver and critical thinker, encouraging them to think outside the box.

A range of teaching strategies, such as inquiry based learning, team work, goal setting and having a growth mindset will be used to ensure students are engaged in their learning outcomes. The ongoing development of these skills also helps to support the development of the whole child.

A core component of the pathway is to raise students’ aspirations and expose them up to a wide variety of career pathways and opportunities that may be available to them.

The Pathway is well suited for students who are considering ATAR courses in Year 11 and 12 and, if they choose, further study at university.

At Coastal Lakes College have high expectations for each of our students and we want to provide our students with a number of opportunities to reach their potential. Having robust programs that enrich and extend our students is just one of the ways we achieve this.

Ultimately, we want students to grow and develop so that by the time they leave the College they are meeting their point of aspiration, and that they are competitive and well prepared for a rapidly changing future.

Technology Focus

Our technologies focus is part of who we are at Coastal Lakes College. It encompasses the hard and soft skills students require in order to succeed at school and beyond. These skills are embedded in every area of the curriculum across our college.

Our approach means that we can cater to a wide variety of interests, and students have a choice in how they participate.

STEM is taught across our school, in all our subjects. We also have particular focus areas, after-school clubs and specialist programs that allow students to delve deeper into various areas of interest. This helps to ensure that all students can get involved and find something that they enjoy, whilst developing these fundamental skills.

Two key areas of focus are drones and submersibles.

Our technologies focus encompasses the skills learnt in science, maths, technology and engineering.

It brings alive the soft skills of STEM; problem solving, creativity, critical analysis, teamwork, independent thinking, initiative, communication and digital literacy.

Our technologies focus is guided by our students; their skills, interests, ideas and aspirations. This, coupled with our state-of-the-art facilities and our access to the latest technology, makes us a great choice for students interested in expanding their STEM skills

Arts Focus

At Coastal Lakes College students participate in both Drama and Visual Art classes to explore a range of theatre and art styles.

Students experiment with a wide range of media and artistic processes that help to develop their imagination and critical thinking skills.

Our program has a focus on community and sustainability within the Arts.

Our teaching staff carry a wide range of skills so that we can cater for different styles and student interests.

Timetabled classes ensure that students are exposed to the core curriculum, while after-school clubs and showcases allow us to tailor opportunities to students and their interests.

Our arts facilities are amazing at Coastal Lakes College. Our inspiring facilities include a dedicated performing arts building with theatre spaces, drama room with a sprung floor, back stage facilities and dressing rooms, a dance studio and multiple green rooms. We also have a dedicated visual arts building with separate printmaking, drawing, ceramics, film/audio and digital media spaces. Students will have access to a wide range of resources, technology and facilities that will enable them to develop industry based skills that are essential for 21st Century living and ensure that they have the foundations to a successful future.

Students will have the opportunity to be involved in Dance, Drama and Music Showcases. They will also have the opportunity to get involved backstage and learn fundamental skills such as sound, lighting, costumes, scenography (stage design/props), directing, stage managing etc. Students will have the opportunity to work with scripts and develop their own works.

We will showcase student work in our gallery space within our performing arts foyer and in gallery spaces in our wider community. These opportunities help our students develop good relationships with local community and industry professionals.

In addition to visual and performing arts, students also have access to an incredible music program and after -school club who perform at college events.

Our focus on arts and technology will overlap. Technology will be used to create art and creativity will be a big part of our technology focus. Here you can start to see the cross-curricular approach really coming to life.
