Chelmsford Hospital School are looking to recruit an outstanding Maths Teacher to join our Teaching team on a maternity cover basis from September 2024 until Summer 2025! We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and committed teacher who will expand the learning experiences of our pupils. The successful candidate will be teaching and supporting our young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs.


The school has a broad and balanced curriculum which caters for the needs of learners who have a range of complex and multi-faceted needs and are supported by specialist education programmes and the integrated support from the therapeutic and hospital staff. During their time at Chelmsford Hospital School learners achieve a number of qualifications during their recovery, including GCSE’s, functional skills, and vocational certificates in a wide range of subjects.

The team are looking for a like-minded individual who shares the ethos of student-centred learning and teaching, putting the student at the heart of everything they do. We are seeking an outstanding practitioner, committed to the best possible outcomes for young people, who is passionate and able, influencing educational best practice. They will be working in a small team of teachers, focused on bespoke learning for each of the students, able to be resilient and flexible in their practice and excited to work with the Multi-disciplinary team of the hospital, which includes therapy and clinical teams, to achieve the best outcomes for the students in their educational journey.


The successful candidate will have responsibility for curriculum development in Maths. Strength in the delivery of PSHE and SMSC would also be a significant advantage. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates from mainstream or specialist education or community provision who are looking to move into a hospital specialist setting. Best suited to the post would be qualified teacher with experience working with young people with social, emotional or mental health difficulties.

Chelmsford’s hospital school is attached to a CAMHS unit and educates in-patients aged 11 to 18 years with a range of social, emotional or mental health needs. We have a team of specialist teachers and teaching assistants who deliver education to all young people at the hospital, where the school is based.

It is our intention that every student develops their courage, determination and skills as a learner, so they can re-engage confidently with their education on discharge.

Our school offers a broad based academic and enrichment curriculum, with specialist teaching spaces, teaching technologies and substantial grounds around our buildings.
