Opened in 1957, Saint Pius X Catholic High School is located in the city of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. A co-educational school with around 650 pupils aged 11-16, Saint Pius is smaller than the average secondary school of its type. Although the vast majority of teaching occurs on-site, the school does make some use of off-site provision for pupils studying particular subjects or with particular needs. A voluntary-aided school, it has close links to the Diocese of Hallam, but ultimate responsibility for maintaining the school lies with the Local Authority.

Values and Vision

As a Roman Catholic school, Saint Pius X works hard to impress upon its students a number of traditional Christian values. These include a strong sense of pride in their community and the desire to work together towards the common good, as well as a sense of acceptance and tolerance towards those from different backgrounds of with different belief systems. The school’s admission policy does, however, prioritise those from a Catholic background, although followers of all faiths are welcome to apply to the school.

Ofsted

“Many students make good progress as they move through the school. The proportion of students across all year groups making better than expected progress is rising as a result of good and better teaching. Students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is well promoted. The school’s work to keep children safe is good. Students say they feel safe and enjoy coming to school.”
