New Build – Berewood Primary School
Waterlooville, Hampshire
Mainstream, 4-11 years (Mixed), State - Academy

The University of Chichester Academy Trust is developing a new primary academy at Berewood Primary School in Waterlooville, Hampshire which will see its doors open for the first time on Monday, 8th September 2014, with places in Reception and in Years 1-6 to meet demand.  The Headteacher post is currently being advertised, with a closing date of 11 November.  Full details of the post can be found on the TES jobs website.

Pupils will enjoy break times with a hard playground marked out for ball games, a range of climbing and balancing equipment laid over safety surfaces, and areas for quieter activities. Early Years classes will have their own large enclosed outdoor space and an enclosed courtyard at the heart of the school will create a natural space for outdoor learning.

Inside, accommodation includes 14 attractively decorated classrooms, four group rooms, a staff room and offices, while the main hall has been designed as a flexible area that can be used for assemblies, as a dining hall, a performance space and a gymnasium.

Some areas will be available outside school hours for use by the community, including the main hall, a music and drama studio, library and ICT learning resource centre, kitchen and food technology classroom.

The Academy will increase pupil numbers on roll gradually to 420 places with a two-form intake to meet the needs of the growing local community, as well as anticipated interest from the surrounding area.

Put on your virtual wellington boots and visit the site!

On 1 November 2013 you will be able to follow the progress of this new build as the school’s website, www.berewoodprimary.co.uk goes live.  With regular updates of the site photo gallery, you will also be able to discover more about the first-class educational opportunities the Academy will provide; and learn about staff appointments, the school day, and the facilities that will be available to the wider community.

Berewood is located a few miles from Hampshire's stunning coast and close to Portsmouth and Havant, with excellent transport links. The development plans over the next 10 to 15 years include two new schools, offices, retail, as well as 2,550 homes.  It is likely that there will be about 150 houses occupied at Berewood by the time the new school opens.

The University of Chichester Academy Trust shares the University’s belief that education has the power to transform society, that we should play a role in enabling people to exceed their expectations and that we should have a positive impact on our local and regional communities.

Approved as an academy sponsor by the Office of the Schools Commissioner in the summer of 2012, the University of Chichester has established a Multi-Academy Trust to develop a family of 30-40 academies with the common aim of continuous school improvement through challenge, collaboration and support. Teacher education has been at the heart of the University’s activities for over 150 years and today the University’s sizeable Department of Education works in partnership with about 800 schools and provides Initial Teacher Training that is judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. It was a natural next step to become an academy sponsor.
