Job overview

Help us shape the future of Maths. We are looking for someone who would really like a flexible working week in our academies in the Northern region.

This opportunity has arisen due to some specific input from the DfE into the region to develop our mathematics provision for all students.

Pupils have had a turbulent few years in education and their experience of learning through these times will be varied depending on where they live and how the pandemic impacted them. We want to ensure that the knowledge gaps between those who have and those who have not had the best provision does not widen any further, we need to help them thrive! We are working with the Maths Hub to develop our teachers even more, and to facilitate this, we would like to release our teachers to observe each other, to work collaboratively and to receive specialist training. We know that the key to great outcomes in mathematics lies in setting firm foundations, building confidence and gaining trust in their teachers. This is why we are looking for a teacher to work with us, and these students, as a consistent, friendly face in the times their usual teacher is not in with them.

If you are considering a move to maths teaching from a different subject area this could be the way to expand your experience, into the mathematics world. If you have recently retired, but are missing the wonderful immediate feedback and energy pupils give you, but don’t want to commit to a full time return - this could certainly fit your needs. If you have stepped away from the classroom for a while, thinking about a return, but need to regain your confidence, this could be for you.

You will work alongside permanent teachers and their classes when you are in, sometimes with small groups, sometimes as support in the lesson and, once you feel confident, occasionally take the class in full to release the classroom teacher to observe other staff, to work collaboratively and to receive training.

We are an 11-16 academy based in the large, north-east town of Middlesbrough.

The academy received a good judgement in their 2017 Ofsted inspection. However in July 2022 the academy was given a notice to improve judgement. Leadership has significantly changed and a comprehensive improvement plan has been implemented to secure sustainable long term change for the academy. It is an exciting time to join the academy’s committed team and join them on this important improvement journey.

Taking a holistic approach to education, valuing vocational, practical, creative, and academic qualities equally, we believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally. We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.
