Job overview

We are looking to appoint an inspirational and dedicated Teacher of Physical Education (maternity cover). This teacher will join a busy, exciting and vibrant PE department in a high performing and supportive school. The person we are looking to appoint, will have the ability to motivate and inspire, as this is vital in this excellent department. This position will cover a period of maternity leave, starting in June 2024 or September 2024. The successful applicant will be able to teach PE across Key Stages 3 and 4. The ability to teach at Key Stage 5 would also be an advantage, but not essential. This is a part-time position for 0.4 FTE (2 days).

We welcome applicants from both ECTs or experienced teachers who are passionate about the subject and want to broaden their experience in a dynamic and innovative department. There will be an expectation to support the PE department with a busy extra-curricular programme during and after school.

St. Simon Stock Catholic School Founded in 1967 as a school of the Archdiocese of Southwark, the School recently celebrated 50 years of Catholic education serving Maidstone and the west of Kent. As a Catholic Comprehensive school of all abilities within a selective area, the School is known for its high standards of academic, vocational, sporting and pastoral achievements. The School has a Sports Hall and Designated 6th Form Centre, specialist Science labs [the School has a Science specialism], Technology workshops, Muga sports facility.

CPD - involves a series of twilight sessions on areas identified by staff through appraisal; electives are created from courses attended by staff to feedback to colleagues; training for new areas e.g. LGBTQ,SEN, Pupil Premium, etc. A Senior Member of Staff has the encouragement of career progression as part of their role in addition to Performance Management and CPD in order to gain a holistic overview of training.

OFSTED - Section 5-Good; Section 48-Outstanding in all categories.
