Job overview

Calling all PE Teachers interested in teaching KS3 Science!

Newhouse Academy – part of the Hollingworth Learning Trust – has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious PE teacher, looking to improve their employability by gaining valuable experience in teaching KS3 Science at our academy from Summer term/September 2024.

Due to the rousing success of our current programme to train PE Teachers to become Science and Maths Teachers, we are looking for a great practitioner to teach Science at Newhouse Academy.

Our current KS3 Assistant Head of Science joined the academy as a trained PE teacher with the view to teach KS3 Science. After comprehensive support, they developed to be a valuable asset for our department and have subsequently taken on the responsibility for KS3 across the department. This outlines our desire to ensure that staff have ample opportunity to progress and develop within Newhouse Academy.

“Career wise and enjoyment wise it was the best move I ever made.”

In return, we will offer comprehensive training, plus the support of our talented and experienced Science Department and Senior Leadership Team. If you are looking for an opportunity to broaden your skill-set, our Trust has a proven track record of developing its staff through professional development opportunities both externally and internally.

Newhouse Academy is a comprehensive secondary school, situated close to the M60 in the town of Heywood. We work closely with our partner school, Hollingworth Academy, and are on a school improvement journey to deliver rising academic standards. The emphasis for the academy is the ‘Our People’ high expectations agenda, where we have concentrated on doing the right thing for our people, through a carefully constructed personal development curriculum.

We are very pleased with the progress that the school is making, excited about the potential for our current and future students, and are all working tirelessly to ensure that we keep moving forward, delivering the very best education.

We are delighted by our recent Ofsted report, which graded the academy as ‘Good’ for Leadership & management, Personal development and Behaviour & attitudes. This fantastic achievement followed GCSE results from summer 2023 that led to Newhouse Academy being placed ‘top of similar schools nationally’, by the Fischer Family Trust, based on Progress 8.

Newhouse Academy has been chosen as one of 50 schools nationally to gain government funding for building development, which will see a brand new build for our Science, PE and Technology departments, and is well underway, set to open later this year.

Newhouse Academy strives for ‘high expectations in all that we do’ and the successful candidate will be committed to helping us achieve this.
