Job overview

Full time Temporary to cover maternity leave

We are looking for a strong classroom practitioner to join the successful Performing Arts team.

Drama comes under the umbrella of the Performing Arts area which also includes music and dance. We have a strong belief in team work as an area helping support and foster student’s enthusiasm and commitment in all areas of performing arts. We are housed in a purpose built area of the academy that boasts excellent facilities.

At Key Stage 3 students are taught drama as part of a rotation with music and dance. We run a performance based curriculum aimed at building students skills through a series of opportunities to perform to their peers at the end of every half term. This requires a flexible and creative approach to the subject which both engages the students and gives them the confidence to show their work.

At KS4 we have a very successful record in offering Edexcel Level 2 Btec in Performing Arts. We have 3 groups in both year 10 and 11. Familiarity with Btec would be a great advantage. Again we have a strong emphasis on performance to help develop confidence and skills.

This post has no timetable commitment to 6th form but the successful candidate may get involved with 6th form productions that lead to their examination work. At KS5 students are offered the opportunity to study Edexcel Level 3 Btec in Performing Arts. This is a popular option at 6th form with a real focus on the practical.

Marine Academy Plymouth is committed to safeguarding children in its care; any successful appointment is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

Closing date for applications: 12th July 2015
Interviews: as soon as possible after closing date

The Marine Academy Plymouth is not your average kind of academy. We aim to deliver for all learners, to the very highest degree, all the conventional outcomes of education and the Every Child Matters agenda too. Alongside this fundamental aim is our commitment to respecting, relating to and learning from through the environment and in particular the marine environment, which of course represents the heritage of this great city.

The Academy is sponsored by the University of Plymouth, with its world class marine science reputation, along with co-sponsors Cornwall College and Plymouth City Council. The Academy opened in September 2010 on the existing site of Tamarside Community College, but has undergone a major building re-development which now offers state-of-the art facilities.

The aim is to transform education for Plymouth in general and for the school’s community and locality in particular. This will be achieved through a commitment to foundational academic achievement combined with the development of enterprise skills, communication skills and entrepreneurialism, all using environmental and marine themes and the multiple environments in the South West of tourism, leisure, recreation and maritime engineering.
