Job overview

Emanuel School has an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified performing arts graduate to support the administrative functions of our music and drama departments.

As a Performing Arts Graduate - Administrative Assistant, you will play an important role ensuring the smooth running of lessons and co-curricular activities, assisting with a range of administrative and logistical tasks. These tasks will include:

  • Assisting in the organisation and management of co-curricular events, trips and residentials, attending when required
  • Acting as steward for ABRSM and Rockschool rehearsals and examinations
  • Managing the music department’s sheet music and instruments, arranging servicing and repair when necessary
  • Designing and printing promotional material for performances
  • Assisting with filming and recording of examination submissions and co-curricular events
  • Offering technical support to the drama department

We are looking for an individual with a variety of specialisms across music and drama. You will have strong communication and organisation skills, as well as the confidence to work with children in a trusted role. The ability to offer skilled support in the performing arts is advantageous.

This is a great opportunity for those interested in a future teaching career. Emanuel offers a range of opportunities to develop their skills and experience during their year at the school.

This role is term time only, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 in school. There will be several weekend and evening activities to support rehearsals and performances. Additional commitments outside term time would be agreed separately.

Working at Emanuel

There is a genuine buzz at the school. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school.

Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining the school should expect to do so. There’s a strong sense of community and source of friendship. From the briefing to all staff, to the half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, there’s ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims.

We aim to look after our staff too. We have an appraisal scheme with a focus on the employee’s professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. On a more practical level, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

Additional benefits include:

  • A generous annual leave allowance (33 days plus UK bank holidays)
  • Discounts in local shops, restaurants and businesses
  • Season ticket loans and a ride to work scheme

About Emanuel School

“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.

At the heart of our school is a positive and welcoming culture. We are fortunate to have a committed and talented group of colleagues, people who recognise the importance of everyone at the school having a varied working life, a sense of personal growth and shared enjoyment. We wish you the best of luck with your application.
