About Ecole Europeenne de Strasbourg - (European School of Strasbourg)

There are 14 European Schools across the continent. They operate as private-authority sponsored schools controlled jointly by the governments of the countries of the European Union. The Strasburg school the result of a collaboration between Région Alsace, Académie de Strasbourg, Strasbourg local authority, and Bas-Rhin regional council.

The European Schools were originally established to provide education for the children of the employees of the European Institution. However, since 2005, the European Baccalaureate curriculum of the schools has been opened up, and other children may now attend if places are available.

Values and vision

The European Schools aim to provide a multicultural and multilingual education for pupils at nursery, primary and secondary level.

The mission statement of the schools was described by the French diplomat and promoter of European unity Jean Monnet as follows: "Educated side by side, untroubled from infancy by divisive prejudices, acquainted with all that is great and good in the different cultures, it will be borne in upon them as they mature that they belong together.”

He said that “without ceasing to look to their own lands with love and pride,” pupils at the schools would “become in mind Europeans, schooled and ready to complete and consolidate the work of their fathers before them, to bring into being a united and thriving Europe."

Ecole Européenne de Strasbourg aspires to help students on a personal journey to success. Strengthening language teaching is one of the institution’s key principles,as is training students to be environmentally aware European citizens.
