Job overview

Unity Academy Blackpool welcomes applicants to take up this position from September 1st 2015. Recruitment to this post follows the re-organisation of the primary teaching team.

Unity Academy Blackpool

We are an all-through 4-16 sponsored Academy, which opened as a new Academy in September 2013 building on the work of the predecessor school, Unity College. The Academy’s sponsor is FCAT, the Fylde Coast Academy Trust. You would be joining the growing ‘family of schools’ within FCAT which will provide outstanding opportunities for future professional growth and potential promotion. Furthermore, the Academy is also part of the Fylde Coast Teaching School Alliance which delivers high quality courses on teaching and leadership as well as the opportunity for colleagues to network and share good practice to improve opportunities for young people across the region.

Most recently, we have undergone a huge investment into our school facilities, resulting in the provision of brand new, purpose built facilities for all primary year groups and the complete transformation of our secondary provision, resulting in giving us outstanding teaching and learning facilities across the whole school. The key focus for us all within the Academy is to raise standards, and in particular those of external performance measures. The successful candidate will play a huge part in ensuring that children make the very best possible start into their formal; schooling. Our first year was very successful and we were Blackpool’s most improved school. We are determined to build upon this further and continue our journey of improvement.

The Candidate

We are looking for candidates whose dynamism, commitment, energy, professional expertise and experience qualify them to take on this exciting and invigorating role. The successful candidate will be academically able, an excellent practitioner determined to further improve, and a real team-player. They will strongly support our child-centred ethos in which everyone is encouraged to be successful. We value the fundamental need to work together to achieve our goals, and only by doing so can we be certain that “In Unity, we succeed”

The Role

The successful candidate will have full class responsibility within Key Stage 1 or 2 dependant on their skills. They will understand how children learn and be able to apply this to facilitate the learning in their class and ensure at least good progress for all children. They will lead or be part of a curriculum team in their subject specialism and therefore drive standards across the Academy.

Unity Academy Blackpool

We are very fortunate to have excellent learning facilities for all our students.  Having been completely transformed since 2014, we now offer bright, modern and engaging facilities for all our students from the age of 2 to 16.  Our motto is that “In Unity, we succeed” and this encompasses our desire to achieve success in all aspects of school life.  At Unity we strive to define, desire, demand and deliver success for all our students.  As such, we have high expectations and work tirelessly to ensure the best possible outcomes for our young people.

Unity Academy is also about much more than this alone; we provide exciting learning opportunities for all our students both inside and outside the classroom, with a commitment to enriching our student’s lives with as many varied and exciting opportunities as possible.  We offer a rich extra-curricular programme and a full entitlement curriculum with opportunities to engage in sport, music and drama amongst many other areas.  Our entitlement curriculum has a range of activities which we offer children the opportunity to complete during their time at Unity including learning to cook and ride on donkeys!  Our school has grown in recent years and we now have over 1000 students.  Despite this size we are able to get to know our young people very well, focussing on their individual needs and working in partnership with parents and carers.

We are sponsored by the Fylde Coast Academy Trust (FCAT) and have been since 2013.  With the support of FCAT we have already rapidly improved outcomes for young people aswell as developing a curriculum that is broad, balanced and most importantly meets the needs of our children.  Ofsted recognised the significant improvements we had made when we were judged to be good in all areas in October 2017.  Since then, we have not rested and continued to improve the academy and look for ways to improve the life chances of our young people, including our Forest School provision and Unity Academy Scout Group.

We are incredibly proud of the progress the academy has made over the last few years. It really is an honour to lead such a vibrant and dynamic school community as we continue to work together to strive for greater success because “In Unity, we succeed.”
