Job overview

SEN Teacher, Primary – The Windmill School, A Specialist Autism School

The Windmill School opened in September 2023 and we are a new 90 place special school for autistic pupils aged 5-19 with an educational health and care plan. At the Windmill School, strengths, difference, and positive autistic identity are celebrated.

Admissions in our first year have been targeted to the upper primary/lower secondary age range, however we are now ready (in our brand new new building) to accommodate early years and primary cohorts. Windmill pupils present with significant sensory sensitivities characteristic of autism preventing them from accessing a mainstream environment. Our students will have the potential to achieve academically in their areas of personal strength and interest and will benefit from the full range of the National Curriculum that is adapted to suit their learning style. Our provision offer includes small classes for committed and experienced teachers, and a personalised learning environment that all contribute to making our school an exceptional place to be.

We are currently seeking an outstanding and enthusiastic Primary SEN Teacher for Autumn Term 2024 (or sooner for the right candidate). The successful applicant will demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of the primary National Curriculum and we are also keen to hear from any subject specialists.

We are particularly looking for enthusiastic, versatile, resilient, and committed classroom practitioners able to work as part of a team with strong core values for inclusion.

  • Candidates with UK Qualified Teacher Status or overseas equivalence and experience or qualifications in teaching pupils with special educational needs including autism.
  • Experienced and energetic practitioners with the knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of teaching, learning, assessment and monitoring systems that drive meaningful outcomes.
  • To follow our principles and pedagogy which contribute to the ethos of the Trust, underpinned by the Social Communication Emotional Regulation Transactional Support framework.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • A child centred approach with pupil well-being at the core of this work
