The British International School Houston is seeking to appoint an outstanding Primary Teacher (Lower) to inspire, challenge and support our students in our state of the art purpose built school. To lead Primary student learning within our classrooms as part of a nurturing and vibrant curriculum offer, which develops confident, skilled students who thrive in any situation . To collaborate with colleagues on the development of a modern international Primary curriculum, supported by technology and strong teaching practice, which ensures great outcomes for all. About you

Able to create a classroom culture when there are no limits to what can be achieved, you will have a degree in your specialist subject, a teaching qualification plus considerable teaching experience and knowledge of the curriculum. Receptive to feed back and ready to embrace change, you will be keen to share best practice with colleagues and peers.

A strong ambassador for the school, you will be able to develop new ways to engage students and parents with the wider school and the Nord Anglia Education community. Your strong motivation and communication skills will also enable you to create a feeling of energy, excitement and personal investment within the classroom.

You must be able to meet visa-related restrictions for the Unites States of America (The Americas Region) including having British or American Citizenship or having authorization to work in the Unites States. If you are a British Citizen you must have a PGCE and/or QTS.

Roles and Responsibilities


Wellbeing

  • Sets high expectations for students; inspiring, motivating and challenging students to achieve excellent progress and ambitious outcomes.
  • Sets high expectations for themself. Demonstrates extensive knowledge and use of informal and formal assessment to refine practice and promote the highest outcomes.
  • Adapts and tailors teaching to the needs of individual students taking into account the stages of child development, creating a student-centric environment, with independent learners prepared for life in and beyond school.
  • Represents the school’s values in every interaction with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates the highest levels of integrity, ethics and standards of personal and professional conduct.
  • Actively and enthusiastically contributes beyond the classroom in the wider context of the school community.

Teaching and Learning

  • Has a well-developed, extensive knowledge of child development, subject specialism and related pedagogy (including using Technology for Learning).
  • Experience with and knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), English National Curriculum (ENC), International Primary Curriculum (IPC), Maths Mastery and delivering a text centered approach to English (CLPE).
  • Engages and challenges student learning through questioning and discussion techniques and proven-pedagogical strategies.
  • Knows where students stand as individuals, responds to their needs and evaluates and tracks progress.
  • Creates a culture of learning and manages student behaviour to ensure an environment of respect and collaboration.
  • Participates in all aspects of our learning programme, in line with school policy that assist in growing the school and are linked to the agreed learning programme.


Planning and Preparation

  • Sets clear learning intentions and educational outcomes.
  • Designs lesson plans, activities and assessments that are aligned to the school’s curriculum and that engage students.
  • Conceptualises, plans and teaches well-structured lessons and programmes that engage, inspire and stretch students; encouraging them to be ambitious.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Teaching Qualification PGCE/QTS etc
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in teaching Primary
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures
  • Excellent analytical skills - with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing wit mult-functional tasks.
