Job overview

For exceptional, relevant experience we are prepared to consider a higher salary range.

Merlin Top Primary Academy converted to an Academy in April 2013 and is sponsored by Northern Education Trust, a nationally recognised and trusted academy sponsor with an excellent reputation. Prior to Academy conversion the school was rated as 'requires improvement'. This could be your opportunity to make a significant and measurable difference in improving the educational attainment of our children and young people.

We are looking for a dynamic leader to provide strategic direction to meet ambitious targets for attainment and achievement. With the involvement of multiple stakeholders and high expectations in the local community, there's a need for real strategic vision, commitment and a clear focus on delivery. The potential rewards are enormous. You will be working in a reinvigorated and innovative learning environment, where children and young people are encouraged to develop skills that will truly equip them for life and where the area is supported in community regeneration. You will also be part of the Trust family of Academies with a set of values we all share.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong leadership background in primary education to deliver tangible results. You will have excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills as well as demonstrable evidence of rapidly raising achievement.

Visits to the Academy and informal discussions are encouraged; please contact Helen Clegg, Director of Primary Academies on 0191 2804738 or by email to helen.clegg@northerneducationtrust.org Dates for tour of the Academy prior to submitting an application Thursday 12 March 2015 (by appointment).

Closing date: Noon on Friday 13th March 2015
Interviews: Tuesday 14 April 2015 and Wednesday 15 April 2015

Welcome from the Principal

Merlin Top Primary is a school that our children, staff and governors are proud of. We provide a welcoming, caring, supportive and secure environment in which all children are valued.Thank you for visiting our website. I hope that you will find the information it contains useful and that you get a sense of what it means to be a pupil at Merlin top.

Building an exciting, creative and meaningful curriculum, which equips learners for all stages of their education and beyond is central to our vision here at Merlin Top. We believe that children should be skilled and articulate and we teach this through insisting on the ‘4R’s’ (Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Reflection) in all that we do.

Children are taught to know the importance of reading and spotting progress in what they do. We want our children to be proud of their achievements and we recognise achievement in the widest possible sense.

Through ‘i-challenge’ we focus on how children learn and this is underpinned by building relationships, building teamwork and building confidence.

Our aims:

  • The achievement, personal development and well-being of children and young people, where the welfare of others is seen to be the first concern of all no matter their starting point
  • Promoting and supporting parent and carer engagement in the development of learning and educational experience of their children
  • To understand the community context within which the academy operates and to engage in appropriate activities with other agencies and community groups in order to promote community cohesion and economic regeneration
  • Having an aspiration to be the best
  • Outstanding learning and teaching which engages pupils and is active, collaborative and encourages independence
  • To foster pupil voice intended to empower and involve young people in the development and delivery of their own education and the life of their academy
  • To create and sustain a creative curriculum which meets the needs of all learners, is engaging and fun
  • To support the development of professional networks, within our group and beyond, providing school to school support, opportunities for pupils, and sharing professional development
  • To promote community involvement with our school and to lifelong community learning.
