Job overview
Transforming lives through inspirational learning
We are seeking to appoint an aspirational, motivational and visionary Principal to lead Oasis Academy Lister Park and drive it forward to achieve real, rapid and sustained improvement.
The Academy opened in September 2013, replacing The Challenge College and benefits from impressive facilities and resources including sports hall, grass pitch and drama studio which are used by the wider community as well as staff and students. Oasis Academy Lister Park has a strong ethos of inclusion and has demonstrated success in the development of students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural education.
The Academy possesses many strengths, but the reality is that standards are too low. In February 2015 it was judged by Ofsted as Inadequate with major concerns highlighted around areas including current levels of pupil achievement and progress, pupil behaviour and attendance. Whilst there is already a strong momentum for progress, and Oasis has already recognised the reasons that caused the school to be placed into special measures and has a robust plan for real, rapid and radical improvement, substantial work is still required. Fundamental to this is the appointment of a Principal with the passion and determination to lead the school on its journey of improvement.
We are seeking an individual with a proven track record, high expectations, a clear focus on raising standards and experience of inspiring a team and strengthening morale to transform the Academy and develop successful young people who are capable of making a positive contribution to society as a whole.
Oasis Academy Lister Park is part of the Oasis Community Learning family, a multi-Academy sponsor with the express purpose of transforming learning, lives and communities through the development of Oasis Academies. The successful candidate will need to understand, share and be committed to the Oasis ethos of inclusion, equality, healthy relationships, hope and perseverance.
This is no easy journey – it will be challenging, but at the same time highly rewarding with the potential to make a significant impact on the educational outcomes of 100’s of pupils. We do not expect you to do this on your own: you will enjoy the support and challenge that being part of a family of Academies can offer.

About Oasis Academy Lister Park
Oasis Academy Lister Park is a secondary school and sixth form in Bradford, about one mile from the city centre. Previously known as the Challenge College, it is now named after Lister Park, an award-winning public park opposite the school. Initially a community school administered by Bradford City Council, it became an academy and was given its new name on 1st September 2013. The Oasis Trust sponsors the school, but it handles admissions in cooperation with the council. Oasis Academy Lister Park offers GCSEs and BTECs to pupils, while sixth form students can study from a range of A-Levels and further BTECs.
Values and Vision
The academy’s aim is to boost aspirations, help students reach their potential and promote a 'can do' culture. Its ethos is rooted in Christian values like respecting people’s freedom and beliefs, as well as working actively against discrimination and social exclusion. The academy wants to develop informed learners with confidence and a willingness to ask questions and solve problems. It believes this can be achieved through top-quality facilities, outstanding staff and partnership with parents.
