Job overview

Bold and transformative leader required. Shape our future - realise our full potential.

Situated in the heart of Brighton & Hove, City College provides an outstanding educational experience that changes the lives of our 7,000 students every year. Student satisfaction levels are consistently high at 97%, and achievement rates have been steadily increasing in the past few years, reaching their highest ever level of 95% in 2013/14. Brighton & Hove is in the top 5 cities in the UK for private sector job creation, we occupy a pre-eminent place in the digital and creative sectors and have a growing young people demographic. These fantastic advantages are recognised by our key partners across the city and we are strategically critical to the development of the community we serve.

Opportunities for development are clear but there are undoubtedly challenges in the sector as funding either decreases or demands more output for the same, and policy drivers from government are narrowing into key areas of importance. We want to seize these opportunities but be better equipped to navigate/mitigate the challenges. To do this we are now looking to appoint a new executive team and need bold and transformative leaders to help shape our future and realise our full potential.

As our new Principal you will be the academic leader, developing teaching and learning across the college, creating and sustaining a culture of progressive curriculum excellence, innovation and delivery. You will ensure our curriculum meets the needs of all students, employers and community partners, and that quality is of the highest possible standard; developing systems and processes to drive continuous improvement. You will work closely with other members of the new executive team, playing a wider strategic role in the development of our organisation and ensuring teaching and learning is always at its heart.

This is an unrivalled opportunity to create an outstanding teaching and learning environment and help the college realise new opportunities for curriculum development. You may already be a Principal looking for a fresh challenge, or a Vice Principal wanting to take their next step. Whatever your background you will have a proven track record in leading a progressive approach to teaching and learning improvement and bring particular experience in developing apprenticeships and curriculum geared towards international students.

You will also bring experience of developing effective and engaging alternative, blended and digital learning strategies and demonstrate an ability to be inventive, enterprising and at times radical. Collaborative and team oriented in approach, you will be comfortable working effectively as part of a strategic team and will have led high performing, innovative and student focused teams.

Leading this next phase of our development will require ambition, energy, and focus – nothing else will do.

If you are confident you can help us realise our full potential and want to play a vital part in the next stage of our journey we’d love to hear from you.
