Job overview

Where learning has no limits…

Are you ready to be an Academy Principal within a multi-academy trust comprising two primary schools, an all-age special school, a secondary school and a SEMH Free School? This post offers excellent opportunities in Secondary School and Executive Leadership for an outstanding and ambitious candidate.

We are looking for an exceptional professional who will provide dynamic and innovative strategic leadership and operational management of Haughton Academy within The Education Village Academy Trust. The post holder will report to the Chief Executive, and will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and governors.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record as a senior leader in a mainstream Secondary School and be able to clearly demonstrate an ability to raise standards quickly across the age and ability range. With delegated head teacher responsibilities for Haughton Academy, you will be able to articulate a compelling future vision and demonstrate how your leadership skills will help us deliver on our mission to provide excellent education for all the children we serve.

Because this role is so critical, we are seeking a candidate who combines a deep understanding of effective teaching and learning with the leadership capabilities and emotional intelligence to inspire our staff and our students to achieve their very best. Moving quickly out of ‘Requires improvement’ will be an early priority.

Haughton Academy operates in close collaboration with the family of schools within The Education Village Academy Trust and therefore offers an exceptional opportunity to lead a Secondary School, widen one’s leadership experience and share collaborative practice.

For an informal discussion or to arrange a visit to the Education Village, please contact Judith Amerigo, HR Manager, on 01325 248113.

If you have passion, vision and drive, and feel able to contribute across other areas of the Trust too, then contact us now.

For an application form and further information please visit our website at www.educationvillage.org.uk.

The closing date for applications is 9.00am on Monday 1st June 2015.
The selection process will take place on Thursday 4th June 2015.

The Education Village Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS and disqualification by association disclosure.

The Education Village Academy Trust is located in Darlington, in the North East of England. It brings together two primary schools, a secondary school, a large all-age multi-need special and a SEMH free school.

The Education Village formed in 2006 with three schools – Springfield Primary School, Beaumont Hill Special School and Haughton Secondary School - coming together to form a hard federation under a PFI contract housed in a state of the art £27 million campus. In April 2012 The Education Village Academy Trust was formed and two further schools subsequently joined the Trust – Gurney Pease Academy (a mainstream primary school) and Marchbank Free School (a SEMH Special Free School), both on their own individual sites.

The Trust is committed to providing an outstanding education in the broadest sense. Our key priorities are to:

Provide a nurturing and friendly atmosphere by providing an environment where students are respected and valued and where individual needs are recognised and supported.

Bring out the best in every child irrespective of any learning difficulties they may have and regardless of their gender, race, colour or religious beliefs.

Provide for each child as many different experiences, ideas and activities as possible in a safe and secure environment.

Help your child care about family, friends, neighbours and their surroundings.

Support our pupils in leading an independent and purposeful life, preparing children for work or further education and promoting citizenship to encourage them to consider the needs of their local and wider community.

Offer a broad and balanced curriculum modified to meet individual needs where appropriate.

Create an atmosphere which encourages teamwork and values the contribution of all partners in the context of a shared acceptance and understanding of the Trust’s direction.   Motivate staff by strong leadership which offers direction and democratic management.

What can you expect from us?    Staff are the Trust’s most valuable resource and we value and invest in our people. We encourage reflective practice, classroom-based research and collaborative peer coaching because we want staff to deliver outstanding provision and to maintain a passion for learning. Wherever possible we seek to accredit the professional development work of staff. Learning from others is at the centre of our staff development provision. We are highly fortunate that our broad educational provision allows us to draw on a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise to deliver a broad and varied internal CPD programme.
