Following a successful launch, the Dorset Studio School is seeking to appoint a Principal with senior leadership experience and a passion for land based education to implement the next phase of the school’s development.

The School opened in September 2014, specialising in Environmental and Land-based Studies for 13-19 year olds. It is co-sponsored by Kingston Maurward College and the Thomas Hardye School, with extensive support from key employers such as the National Trust, the RSPCA, and the Royal Veterinary College.

The School provides a high quality, personalised learning experience for students in new purpose built accommodation based on the Kingston Maurward site. The focus is on supporting the transition from school into work through a rich and varied curriculum that combines academic and vocational education, life skills and work related learning underpinned by the acquisition of an entrepreneurial outlook. The successful candidate will need to have had experience of academic and vocational education and a commitment to project based learning as part of the Studio School vision.

You will be a motivated professional with a strong interest in the landbased sector who is eager to lead the development of an innovative education provision. You will be a strategic thinker with a clear and strong vision and a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, safeguarding and equal opportunities.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake appropriate checks in order to be offered the post as well as providing proof of your right to work in the UK. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to respect this commitment. This post is subject to receipt of a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. The post holder will be expected to start no later than 1 September 2015.

The Dorset Studio School opened in September 2014, welcoming students to a brand new specialist school designed to equip young people with the skills, knowledge and experience they require to succeed in work.

Dorset Studio School offers this new concept in education, where 11–16 year olds can benefit from a different model of learning that captures and channels potential to the highest levels. Dorset Studio School is an Academy and part of a national network of similar schools supported by the Studio Schools Trust.

In partnership with Kingston Maurward Agricultural College, young people have the opportunity to complete their 11-19 studies, within a fully operational, commercial environment, which provides hands on learning in the rural industries.

Located in Dorchester, in the heart of Dorset, the Studio School who specialise in environment and land-based sciences. The school  explores how the land works to deliver educational excellence and opportunity by making the most of our rich natural resources while responding to employer and wider community needs.
