Job overview

We are looking for an inspirational and approachable leader, passionate about providing excellence in education, to lead the College on the next stage of its journey.

‘Inspiring knowledgeable, enquiring and caring global citizens through excellence in education’

We would like to hear from you if you share our vision, ethos and commitment to valuing each child as an individual – providing opportunities for all to achieve within a nurturing environment.

As a state day and boarding school, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma as the sole study option post sixteen, with the Middle Years Programme and GCSEs being followed in the lower years, this role will be both challenging and rewarding. If you aren’t familiar with the IB Diploma or haven’t worked within a boarding environment don’t be put off. As long as you possess the ambition and qualities we are looking for we still want to hear from you. You will be supported by a dedicated Governing Body, SLT, teaching staff, operational team and students with an excellent and open attitude to learning.

Hockerill Anglo-European College has been consistently ranked in the top tier of UK state schools for a number of years and was in the Top 10 Comprehensive Schools in The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2024.  The College is set on an extensive and attractive parkland campus within 30 minutes of both London and Cambridge.

If you are interested in the exciting proposition to lead Hockerill Anglo-European College and would like to find out more, we would encourage you to join us at one of our open mornings where governors will be able to provide an overview of our unique setting and answer any questions you may have.

To book onto the Governors open morning please use the QR code in the application pack. If you are unable to make the open openings but would still like to speak to the governors or have a tour of the College please call and speak to the HR department on 01279 658451.

Important dates:

Start Date: January or April 2025

Governors Open Mornings: Saturday 20 April 0900-1200 & Wednesday 24 April 0900-1100

Closing Date: Wednesday 1 May 0900

Shortlisting Date: Tuesday 7 May

Interview Dates: Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 May

Hockerill Anglo-European College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, including the barred list, (for all adults living in the provided accommodation), as well as other pre-appointment checks outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education.

We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Hockerill Anglo-European College at senior leadership level.

Please email recruitment@hockerill.com if you have any questions or queries.

Ofsted

"Students' personal development is outstanding. All students, including boarders, enjoy school and this is reflected in their exemplary behaviour, their mature and willing shouldering of responsibilities and in the harmonious relationships between students and between staff and students. The recent enhancement of the specialist music provision together with the resulting wider range of available activities has added significantly to students' enthusiasm for school. A real strength of the school is the way students are involved in decision-making through many opportunities such as the school council".
