The Governors of UTC Leeds are seeking to appoint a Principal to take up a permanent full-time position from September 2015 in advance of the school’s opening in September 2016. Full and final Funding Agreement was secured with the Secretary of State in March 2015, enabling building and recruitment to proceed.

The new University Technical College will be the first to serve the Leeds City Region and its specialist areas are Advanced Engineering, Manufacturing and Design. The region supports the third largest concentration of manufacturing and engineering companies in the UK.

The position of Principal presents a unique opportunity to influence the design of the learning environment, curriculum and organisation of this new UTC, in delivering the Trust’s innovative and forward-looking vision.

Applicants should have both the energy and passion to lead and drive the school forward.

UTC Leeds is supported by world class partners from the engineering sector and the University of Leeds, who are driven to inspire the next generation of creative scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.

The Principal will be responsible for providing outstanding leadership to the UTC, promoting its ethos and realising the Governors’ and Trustees’ shared vision by:

  • delivering a high quality curriculum which is both innovative and fit for purpose
  • ensuring the highest standards and expectations in teaching and learning
  • meeting agreed targets in terms of both pupil achievement and the proportion of students progressing onto STEM related degrees or apprenticeships.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding professional and will have managed, with success, an extensive leadership portfolio
  • Be equipped to lead, share and communicate the Governing Body’s vision for a relevant 21st century learning experience for all
  • Be a creative and resilient problem-solver, committed to seeking and implementing innovative solutions
  • Lead by example, ensuring young people are safe, challenged and stimulated to learn and achieve.

UTC Leeds is the first university technical college in the Leeds area. University technical colleges are state-funded technical schools that give students aged 14-19  the skills they need to innovate and invent.

UTC Leeds is based in the growing educational hub at Leeds South Bank, and is a new, exciting type of school created to teach students a range of scientific and technical skills to prepare them for a challenging and stimulating career in engineering, advanced manufacturing or STEM.
