Stantonbury Campus is an 11-18 foundation school at the heart of Milton Keynes, a vibrant multicultural school in England’s fastest growing city. The 60 acre site includes community sport and arts provision, now a charitable arm of our work. We have over 2000 students on roll, including a thriving Sixth Form in a newly refurbished building and two specialist SEND departments. Our innovative curriculum includes specialist courses in sport and the arts.

Our mission is to enable every student to succeed through high expectations, good teaching and a friendly supportive environment. Staff and students use first names, Stantonbury Xtra provides a wide-range of extra-curricular activities and the Progress Centre has rapidly established a national reputation for the tuition and support it offers to disadvantaged students. Our students are confident and successful: our badminton team recently represented England in the world championships, we have a fine reputation for debating and over a hundred students go on to university each year.

For the right person, this is a great job, but there are challenges ahead if the school is to become outstanding. We need to raise standards further and find ways of securing investment in our ageing building stock. Following the retirement of Chris Williams this summer, we are looking for a new Principal who will:

  • Build on recent successes by consolidating improvements in raising standards through leading edge pedagogy and new technologies for learning
  • Strengthen links with our community
  • Look for and exploit opportunities to form partnerships and access funding that will enhance our educational offer and upgrade our facilities.

There is no blueprint for the appointment but the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • A commitment to inclusion and a determination to get the best for every student
  • Successful experience as a senior leader in a school, preferably as a headteacher
  • Excellent strategic leadership -a thoughtful and well informed approach to leading educational change
  • Strong interpersonal leadership – an approachable leader with a strong sense of moral purpose and integrity
  • Informed leadership of pedagogy – a successful track record in teaching children and developing staff
  • Entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Imagination, ambition, determination and a strong sense of purpose
  • Dynamism and an ability to motivate

Stantonbury has a proud history of outstanding provision and achievement in the creative arts and sport. Students enjoy exceptional teaching and facilities in the arts with access to our own art gallery, dance and drama studios, media recording studio and theatre and have gone on to take up places at prestigious drama schools such as RADA. Excellent provision in sport has contributed to outstanding success in local, national and international events, supported by access to outstanding facilities such as our leisure centre, gym, swimming pool and athletics stadium. From 2016 we will be offering Post 16 bursaries to talented sports and performing arts students and we are developing direct routes into further education through our partnership with Bedfordshire University.

Across a broad and balanced range of subjects, students are taught by subject specialists with a passion for what they teach and have opportunities to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities through the Stantonbury Xtra programme. In whatever they participate, students are supported and challenged to achieve their best.

Supported by a government PSBT grant, our STEM provision (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) will be transformed over the next few years to provide excellent facilities and a wider range of opportunities in these important subjects.

Specialist provision for inclusion and health and well-being, is provided by our Aspire Team, through one-to-one tuition, counselling and personalised programmes that enable every student to be supported to succeed. As an inclusive school we organise our curriculum to ensure that more able students engage with challenging activities.

Many students stay on into our Sixth Form, which is housed in specialist facilities and has its own café and private study area. The sixth form is consistently rated Good by OFSTED who noted that good teaching is leading to ever-rising standards (OFSTED 2015).
