Job overview

There can be few roles which offer as much scope as this one; the opportunity to lead and shape a recently established, successful Sixth Form College, while playing an influential role as a senior leader within one of the largest educational, training and employability organisations in the UK.

Established as a stand-alone college in 2013 and operating from a prestigious, city centre new-build, Newcastle Sixth Form College has the ambition to be the best performing A level provider in the region. With an income of £5million and 1200 students, the college offers a wide range of programmes and enrichment opportunities. Success and progression rates are excellent, with a good proportion of our students achieving places at Russell Group universities, and we are the only public provider of the International Baccalaureate in the region.

Newcastle Sixth Form College is part of the NCG which, with a turnover approaching £180 million and over 100 locations across the UK, makes a positive impact on more than 130,000 learners and 20,000 businesses every year.

Our new Principal will lead the overall development and performance of Newcastle Sixth Form College, as well as contributing effectively to the strategic and operational development of NCG. You will develop the college in a profitable manner, continuing the journey of positioning it as an elite education provider to grow student numbers and raising brand awareness across the North East. Leading on strategic planning and curriculum development, you will ensure learner success and financial stability. Through effective leadership skills you will engage and motivate the workforce, harnessing talent to ensure ongoing excellence and innovation in all we do.

Our successful candidate will be a visible and inspirational leader with the ability to create and embed innovative, forward-thinking strategies to further develop the college. You may have experience within a school, sixth form college or GFE college, as long as you have robust knowledge of academic provision and a successful track record at senior management level.

Newcastle Sixth Form College

Established in 2013, Newcastle Sixth Form College  focuses on academic qualifications with an emphasis on providing students with the qualifications they need to progress to University.

NSFC attracts students from over 100 schools from Newcastle and across the North East to access our dedicated facilities and broad A Level offer, with 27 subjects available to study.

Our students choose NSFC for our inclusive approach. They welcome the opportunity to study subject combinations that allow them to progress, in an environment which bridges the gap between school and university. We have also developed a strong ‘respect’ ethos within the college and student feedback indicates that they feel safe and supported regardless of their background, gender or other characteristics; this is because we strongly maintain that there should be no barrier to success at NSFC.

As well as expert A Level tuition we have an enrichment offer of over 40 activities designed to socially and physically develop our students and help prepare them for their next step.

We are active members of both the Association of Colleges and the Sixth Form Colleges Association.
