Job overview

The George Eliot School (11 – 16) is an increasingly successful academy serving an economically diverse area of Nuneaton. Sponsored by the Midland Academies Trust since 2011, it has been transformed from a school with poor outcomes to one which is popular with year on year improvements. The curriculum is GCSE focused and around 50% of students study subjects that allow them to access the full EBACC. Our student numbers are increasing and following our “Good” judgement from Ofsted in June 2014, the school is striving for even higher standards and outcomes.

We are looking for a new Principal who can not only make a difference in the George Eliot School, but as a member of the Trust Senior Leadership Team, will play a vital part in Trust-wide work. The Midland Academies Trust, set up by the North Warwickshire & Hinckley College of Further Education, has a growing body of academies, all located in a 10 mile radius. Given our geographic proximity, we are in a strong position to work collaboratively and provide additional expertise to support transformation and drive improvements in standards.

You will already have a track record of success in raising standards. You may already be working at this level, but be attracted by working across the Trust. Alternatively, you may be aspiring to your first role at this level. Either way you will have a passion for making a difference locally. With outstanding interpersonal skills and self-assurance, you will welcome collaboration and challenge and will seek to work with others across the Trust to maximise the benefits of localism and ultimately deliver the best education for our young people.

George Eliot is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school without sixth form situated in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. A smaller than average-sized secondary school, George Eliot will provide 950 places for secondary students aged 11-16, when fully subscribed.

The George Eliot High School opened in September 1961, set up as a new provision for the housing developments being built in the Nuneaton area. The school has expanded in size several times since then to accommodate its growing pupil numbers, most notably in 2002 when two new buildings were opened.

Ofsted

“The principal provides highly effective and inspirational leadership that embodies high expectations of staff and students. This has led to improvements in teaching and students’ progress. Students’ behaviour is good. They are keen to learn, respond well to teachers and are increasingly aspirational about their own futures.”
