What is a Studio School?

Studio Schools are a new type of state school for 14 – 19 year olds which are designed to better prepare young people for the working world.

Studio Schools pioneer a bold new approach to learning with a focus on teaching through enterprise projects, personalisation and real work. This approach ensures students’ learning is rooted in the real world and helps them to develop the skills and experience they need to flourish in life.

Studio Schools are small schools for 300 students and, with year-round opening and a 9am-5pm working day, they feel more like a workplace than a school. Working closely with local employers, Studio Schools will offer a range of academic and vocational qualifications at Levels 2 and 3, including GCSEs in English, Maths and Science at Key Stage 4 and A Levels and Level 3 Vocational qualifications at Key Stage 5. Additionally, Studio Schools offer work placements linked directly to employment opportunities in the local area. Students will gain a broad range of employability and life skills through the CREATE skills framework (Communication, Relating to Others, Enterprise, Applied, Thinking, Emotional Intelligence), and will have the opportunity to progress on to university, further training, and into employment after completing their studies at the Future Tech Studio.
