Job overview

Private Tutor, Austrian ski valley near Salzburg

Full-time tutor for an Austro-Canadian family

We are searching for a tutor to provide after school support for a 12 year old girl and a 9 year old boy.

We live in London but will spend the next academic year on sabbatical in the Alpine resort community of Bad Gastein. This post suits someone who enjoys the outdoors and who wishes to experience Austrian culture.

The children will attend a local German-speaking school to satisfy their social needs and to allow them to experience a different culture. This, however, is likely to provide insufficient academic progress especially in English.

Both children currently attend the bilingual stream of German School in London following the German rather than the English curriculum. They both enjoy school very much.

The 12 year old girl is academically very talented and highly motivated. The role of the tutor will be to ensure that she continues to receive academically challenging instruction in English. She will also require instruction in maths.

The 9 year old boy is also very successful academically and is highly sociable. His strongest subjects are maths and science. He also enjoys chess. His spoken is English is native, but his written English requires attention. He will also benefit from ensuring that his maths skill are supported during the sabbatical. The role of the tutor will be to help develop his written English skills and to start preparing him for 11+ exams, which he may take in the 2016/17 academic year.

The role will include pastoral care supervising homework, accompanying the children to extra-curricular activities and making them simple meals and snacks.

The job would suit a recent graduate.

Successful candidates will have

  • English mother tongue
  • A good academic record
  • Competence and experience in teaching English and Maths
  • An EU Passport

A driving license is desirable but not required

We offer

A 30 hour working week with two days off per week.

Accommodation in a private apartment close to the family home.

Pay in line with early career teaching salary

We will provide the tutor with one return flight to their country of residence per year as well as an annual ski pass.

Please send a full CV and covering letter including the names and contact details of two referees to e.micheler@lse.ac.uk by 17 July 2015. Interviews will be held during the week commencing 20 July 2015.
