Job overview

Haileybury Almaty is an international school in Kazakhstan with over 500 pupils aged from 5-18. We currently follow the EDEXCEL Psychology AS and A level syllabus. Our modern, award-winning school buildings are located at the foot of the beautiful Tien Shan mountain range. The city itself is a wonderful mix of high-tech modernity and fascinating historical architecture. There is plenty to explore here, from the culture and nightlife of the city to the spectacular countryside on our doorstep which is popular with skiers, cyclists and hikers.

We are currently looking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative Psychology specialist. Our Sixth Form is expanding and includes a number of scholarship pupils drawn from local schools in the city. Class sizes are relatively small here and the students are exceptionally interested in learning Psychology. For most English is not their first language and the school has excellent support in place for both students and teachers in this regard.

For the right candidate there is also the opportunity of a faculty leadership role which includes responsibility for leading PSHE throughout the secondary school. Social Sciences is a friendly and supportive faculty and you would be working with an excellent team of teachers.

Haileybury Almaty School offers a wonderful environment in which to develop one's practice, with small class sizes, delightful students, and a supportive leadership team. We enjoy close links with Haileybury in England, and there are many opportunities as a professional educator to share best practice and to learn from one another. If you are fascinated by learning and wish to be part of a fantastic team, then please send us an application.

In addition to a highly competitive salary compared to the UK, the school provides full health insurance, a generous housing allowance and annual return flights.

Please watch our school video using this link - http://youtu.be/l9e4ZuTdxGk - it will give you an idea of what it is like working at Haileybury Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Closing date for applications is Thursday 23rd April but applications will be considered before the closing date and interviews arranged for good candidates.

Applicants for this post must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including reference checks with previous employers and a criminal record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Haileybury Almaty (HAL) is situated in the vibrant city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, and was the first Haileybury school to be established in the country. With an ever-expanding student body that currently sits at close to 800 pupils ranging from Reception to Year 13 (ages 4-18), HAL offers a unique educational experience. Our primary medium of instruction is English, complemented by dedicated teaching of the Kazakh language and history.

Nestled at the base of the Zailiysky Alatau mountain range, Almaty is a true hidden gem. These mountains are part of the majestic Tien Shan range, extending all the way to the Himalayas in the South and the Altai range in the North.

Kazakhstan has celebrated three decades of independence, with its remarkable progress attributed to policies of neutrality, ethnic tolerance, and balanced international relations. This has attracted substantial foreign investment across all sectors, leading to impressive and resilient economic growth.

Formerly the capital until 1997, Almaty remains the heart of commerce, culture, and entertainment. The city boasts a diverse array of restaurants, clubs, and bars, all set in a relaxed cafe atmosphere. Warm summers and the surrounding countryside offer boundless opportunities for trekking and mountain exploration. Just a short drive from the city, you will encounter breathtaking vistas in the Zhailau mountains.

A 15-minute journey takes you to Medeo, home to an expansive open-air ice rink. Nighttime skating amid falling snowflakes is enchanting and breathtaking. For adventure seekers, the world's second-longest gondola ride from Medeo to the Shymbulak ski resort awaits. Shymbulak offers year-round attractions, from beautiful alpine meadows in the summer to a European standard ski and snowboarding resort in winter, including mesmerising floodlit night skiing.

At HAL, we understand the value of providing a comprehensive educational experience. In addition to our IGCSE and A-Level programmes, parents appreciate our diverse extracurricular activities such as sports, drama, music, community service, debating, Model United Nations, and the International Award (Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme). These offerings complement our rigorous academic curriculum.

Continuing Professional Development is a key focus for all of our staff at HAL. We offer in-house NPQML and NPQSL programmes as professional qualifications, along with a dynamic in-house and external CPD programme.

Our vibrant House system underscores our commitment to outstanding pastoral care and fostering a positive ethos among our students. House competitions occur year-round, and we reward academic progress, participation in school life, musical performances, sports achievements, and contributions to the community through this system.
