Job overview

The ability to read is a fundamental life skill. It is essential to us all if we are to participate fully in society and the workplace. Pupils with poor reading struggle to read independently, and so read less. As a result, they do not accumulate the background knowledge and vocabulary they need to improve their comprehension. It is therefore harder for them to access the curriculum in secondary school, because the required levels of literacy rise rapidly beyond primary school.

 The purpose of this role is to supervise and support Key Stage 3 students in their once per-fortnight reading lesson and to deliver the Accelerated Reader/ Bedrock programmes. You will work alongside the librarian and the Literacy Support Assistants.

 The aims of this lesson are to:

·        Ensure all students have a reading book that is appropriate to them

·        Ensure that all students are supported and encouraged in reading for pleasure.

 The main part of this role is to manage the main body of each class as they read independently and whilst ensuring that the students are engaging with the reading programme.

As an employer we can offer you:

·        a successful and forward-looking school with stunning and unrivalled facilities;

·        a supportive staff team to help you develop your full potential;

·        a school renowned for outstanding professional development opportunities across both its support and teaching staff;

·        a school community committed to corporate excellence.

In all subjects, these changes have resulted in curriculums which are well designed and allow pupils to build their subject knowledge in a logical way.
