Job overview

Having opened as a brand new primary academy in 2012, The Robert Fitzroy Academy continues to grow and now has established itself as a Good School (Ofsted July 2014), in our newly refurbished £10m school buildings. We are excited to be entering our next phase of development as our initial cohort of children continue on their journey into Key Stage 2 in September 2015.

The school has worked hard during these formative years to establish its ethos and core values resulting in happy, vibrant learning environment where children are motivated to achieve. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the ongoing shaping of a school – one that does not come up often. We are looking for the best teachers- with creative minds, leadership skills, and aspirations to join us on a challenging but immensely satisfying journey. You will join the academy, now in its fourth year and work alongside a committed and supportive team of professionals to help build on our excellent reputation and thus have a real impact on its overall development. As the school grows year by year, so too will the range of opportunities and responsibilities for our staff.

We are looking forward to hearing from dedicated and talented teachers who wish to join our fantastic staff team; who are confident in their ability to encourage, engage and inspire our children to become independent, lifelong learners.

We wish to appoint excellent EYFS, Year 1 and Year 3 teachers from September 2015 who will:

  • Help lay the foundations of an outstanding school;
  • Make learning irresistible, effective and inclusive;
  • Embrace and develop the reflective pedagogy necessary to implement consistently good or outstanding teaching and learning ensuring all pupils make good progress (EYFS, KS1 or 2);
  • Be committed to on-going professional development;
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school;
  • Maintain a dynamic and inspiring school environment;
  • Be innovative, highly motivated; willing to take the lead and deliver in an area/s of school life;
  • Have good interpersonal skills and are able to work well as part of a team.

We can offer you:

  • An ambitious, happy and vibrant place to work and the unique opportunity of being part of a new school, as well as being part of the wider REAch2 Academy Trust family of primary academies striving to deliver an outstanding education for all pupils;
  • An active school community with supportive parents;
  • A brand new learning environment for every child and teacher;
  • Excellent professional development opportunities through partnership with other REAch2 schools;
  • A supportive working culture that focuses on positive learning behaviour and high expectations for all children;
  • A senior leadership team that believes in distributive leadership and says 'yes' to good ideas;

And uniquely in a Year 3 post:

  • The opportunity to share your vision, experience and creativity and play a key role in leading the school into its new Key Stage 2 provision.

Potential candidates are encouraged to meet the Head teacher, Michelle Rosemond, for an informal discussion about the position. We encourage you to visit us; a warm welcome awaits you. Please contact the school office – t: 0208 662 9700 e: admin@robertfitzroyacademy.com - to make an appointment, arrange a visit or request and application pack.

Resilience, Focus, Aspiration

OUR MISSION

We are a school for human flourishing. Never before have educators been under so much pressure to demonstrate academic achievements and progress through results. At RFA we hold fast to the belief that our pupil’s well-being, confidence and happiness will provide the right foundation for academic rigour. Our aim is to provide a complete education – one that nourishes the mind, body and spirit. The whole child is the whole point of what we do.

We nurture learners who are Resilient, Focused and Aspirational. We don’t want these letters to just adorn the jumpers of our pupils but we want them to be the daily oxygen that we breathe. And how do we do that? By believing in and being committed  to the transformative power of four types of capital.

Cultural capital

We give pupils a range of experience beyond the academic curriculum offering them opportunities to see the world differently. We are strongly committed to the arts and believe it is every child’s right to take part in creative and cultural experiences.

Aspirational capital

A growth mindset approach underpins every aspect of school life. Children are given opportunities to excel.

Pastoral capital

Ensuring that pupil well-being is at the heart of all we do. We offer a range of therapies including Lego and art therapy for vulnerable pupils. Principled relationships exist throughout the school

Professional capital

Investing in our teachers means we invest in our pupils.

OUR CURRICULUM

At RFA, we recognise that learning is a complex process and that the days of "talk and chalk" are long gone! Children learn in different ways and if you come into our lessons, you will see multi-sensory, innovative teaching leading to fantastic learning experiences.

You will see teachers questioning children to think more deeply and you will see children understanding themselves as learners. We believe in the power of text to transform reading and writing across the school and our English curriculum is taught through high quality children’s literature. Even our maths is sometimes taught through a text base approach.

Specialist Art, Music, Drama and PE teachers are employed at RFA to ensure the highest quality of teaching is taking place across the curriculum. These teachers plan lessons and projects that broaden pupils’ knowledge, skills and attitudes. Events throughout the school year such as the European Day of Languages, Black History Month, World Book Day and Shakespeare Week also enhance and enrich pupils’ learning and enjoyment at school.
