ADVERTISEMENT FOR GOVERNOR VACANCIES AT SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND STROUD COLLEGE FURTHER EDUCATION CORPORATION

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people?

South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) has formed as the result of the merger between Filton College in South Gloucestershire and Stroud College Gloucestershire. Formed on 1 February 2012, SGS plays a crucial role in the development of the skills and talents of young people and adults.

As a result of a recent vacancy, members of the Board are looking to appoint an additional Governor to fill this vacancy.

The role of a Governor is interesting and varied and the Governors of SGS are looking for dedicated people that can bring a variety of skills and experience to the role and have the qualities to support the College in its strategic aim to become an outstanding institution.

College Governors are people from the communities the College serves who wish to make a positive contribution to the development of further education in the area. The Corporation is looking for an individual that possesses business/investment appraisal skills/experience or can provide recent and relevant financial experience, in particular, experience with financial control/management/monitoring, audit and risk management. The broader your vocational field and experiences the better.

Governors are volunteers; their role is comparable with that of non-executive directors of the board of a public company. The position of Governor is unpaid, although they are entitled to claim for expenses incurred. Governors have an important part to play in setting the strategic direction of the College, ensuring accountability for the use of public funds and monitoring and evaluating the College’s performance. Applicants will need to confirm their willingness to commit the necessary time and effort needed to fulfil the role.

The Corporation welcomes all applications and is keen to involve people of all ages and cultural backgrounds and strongly encourages applications from under-represented groups and from all sections of the communities served.
