The Post

This post is on the staff of the Department of Education and Children, Education Improvement Service (EIS). This is a full time permanent post, which will commence on 1 September 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. The postholder will be based at the Department of Education and Children’s offices in Douglas and will be employed under the terms and conditions of service, which can be found within the following link: www.jobtrain.co.uk/iomgovjobs.  The post requires the use of a personal vehicle for travel between sites for which mileage expenses will be reimbursed at the agreed Government rate.

The post is seen as a professional development opportunity for a middle or senior school leader, which may lead to a return to a school leadership role.

The successful applicant will contribute to the work of the advisory team in the following ways:

Particular responsibilities:

  • Leading agreed areas of EIS work in supporting secondary schools (to be negotiated taking account of the postholder’s areas of strength and expertise);
  • As Line Manager to the Manx Language Officer:
  • Coordinating the Department’s strategy for Transition between Key Stage 2 and 3 for all staff and Governors.

In addition the post holder will be expected to:

  • offer Quality Assurance to secondary schools;
  • contribute to school reviews and external validations as a team member;
  • contribute to the Continuing Professional Development Programme;
  • contribute to the governor training programme;
  • provide phase specific advice, support and training through school visits, staff meetings and training days.

The post holder will be accountable to the Director of Education, or his nominee, and will be expected to work in collaboration with the other members of the Education Improvement Service team to ensure that secondary schools receive high quality support, guidance and challenge.
