Caldicott is one of the country’s most prestigious Independent Boarding and Day Preparatory Schools for Boys. We are a flourishing school with around 250 boys from 7 to 13 years old, with a five-day week in Year 3 & Year 4 and Saturday School from Year 5, with Flexi Boarding (1st to 4th Form/Years 3 – 6), Weekly, Full Boarding or Day Plus options (5th – 6th Form / Years 7 & 8). We deliver a first-class education, sporting provision and a rich variety of music, drama, arts and extracurricular opportunities in a friendly and supportive working environment. The school is only twenty miles from central London in a beautiful location.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced librarian to manage this core resource, provide a professional and friendly library service to pupils and staff alike and encourage and facilitate a love of reading. The successful candidate will develop our library not only as a hub where they want to learn, read, study and borrow resources but also to explore their creativity and imaginations.

The successful candidate will be:

·        educated to degree level, ideally with a qualification in librarianship;

·        knowledgeable and enthusiastic about children’s literature;

·        collaborative with classroom teachers, providing effective curriculum support and developing pupils reading and referencing skills;

·        Committed to developing our safe and happy learning environment;

·        confident and comfortable with technology (the school uses Oliver Library Software)

·        innovative, with ideas for new initiatives to inspire pupils and develop the library; and

·        have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, resilience, and the ability to work as a part of a team.

Caldicott places the Library at the heart of the community – a place of intellectual challenge that inspires a love of reading and natural sharing of literature. The new School Librarian will build upon this positive culture and play an active role in the curriculum: running reading workshops, competitions, book clubs and introductory sessions to boys of all ages.

Caldicott is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Caldicott is a thriving day and boarding country prep school for boys aged 7 – 13 in South Buckinghamshire. Situated in 40 acres of magnificent grounds, we are just 15 miles from Heathrow Airport and 30 minutes from West London. We pride ourselves on our warm community where our pupils are happy and feel valued.

The success of Caldicott in recent years has led some to describe the school as amongst the country’s top prep schools, yet our approach to the education we provide stems from an ethos fostered by our founder, Mr J Heald Jenkins. He believed that decency, tolerance and humanity would enable each boy to ‘shine their light on the world’.

The main point of entry into Caldicott is in Year 3 and Year 4, although some boys join later. All boys board in Year 7 and Year 8 with the option to flexi/occasional board between Year 3 - Year 6.

Most boys leave at 13 to the finest independent senior schools with outstanding grades and routinely succeed in scholarship applications including academic, sport, music, art, drama and ‘all-rounder’ awards. Further details regarding future schools and scholarship success following Caldicott can be found here...

Caldicott is committed to an education that has the wellbeing of each boy at its heart; to develop individuals who thrive and flourish in the fullest sense. We aim to equip our children to be happy and confident, form lasting relationships with others and tackle each challenge with grit and good humour. Our community is not only warm and welcoming from the staff and pupil body, but also our parents form the Friends of Caldicott who bring the whole community together with fantastic events throughout the year.
