What We Are Looking For

We need an experienced teacher for an advisers' position. The successful applicant will commence duties in January 2016. A later starting date may be negotiable.

The position is part of our Centre for Professional Development (CPD) and involves providing a range of curriculum and professional advice in IEA schools throughout Papua New Guinea. Applicants should be qualified teachers with considerable classroom background. Experience as an adviser is not essential. The main focus is on Grades Pre to 8 but some assistance is also provided at higher grades.

The successful applicants will meet the following essential criteria:

  • a minimum qualification of Bachelor of Education (or equivalent) and five years' teaching experience in elementary education
  • experience in facilitating teacher development at school or system level
  • sound knowledge and understanding of current trends in Early Years/Primary/Middle School curriculum
  • high standard of classroom management and teaching skills
  • an empathy with the needs of teachers making the transition from a teacher-centred lineal approach to a child-centred holistic approach to education
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • a personal educational philosophy which is consistent with holistic education and an outcomes based approach

While adaptability to respond to needs across the academic spectrum is desirable, for the foreseeable future, the focus of support will be specifically concerned with assisting teachers to improve teaching skills in at least one of the followiing areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Inquiry
  • Information and Communication Technology in the Classroom

Particular skill in at least one of these areas is essential.

About the Job

The successful applicant will be part of a team of 6 advisers responsible to the IEA Director of Education for the provision of in school support to teachers in our 19 schools across the country, and for the development of curriculum and related resources.

The International Education Agency is the oldest and largest private education provider in Papua New Guinea. It is a non-profit company responsible for the management of twenty school campuses and a large vocational college throughout the country.

Each school is controlled by a Board of Governors elected by the parents. Schools are managed by Principals who are each responsible to the Director of Education. The IEA curriculum has been developed in line with current international curriculum trends.
