Job overview

Southlands is a small school set in lovely grounds in the beautiful location of Boldre Village near Lymington in Hampshire. It is a school for up to sixty male students aged 7-16 that have a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism.

We require a Teacher that is well motivated and enthusiastic to join our successful and supportive Education Staff Team, working in a well-equipped room with brand new data logging equipment and a class iPad. You will also have a specialist Science TA/Technician to support alongside classes.

We are looking for a qualified teacher who has a passion for working with students with additional needs or an interest in professionally developing this aspect of their work. You would be teaching KS3 & KS4 levels and should be familiar with the curriculum changes from September 2015 - exam board AQA. You should have the ability to teach both core and additional science with experience in Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

The pupils at Southlands School work in small classes and have at least one Teaching Assistant and Teacher in each class. The range of ability varies from academically very able, to some that need some support with basic skills.

Occasionally some of our students can exhibit challenging behaviour and the successful candidates will need to show they have the ability to adopt a sensitive disposition when responding to situations where students are presenting with these difficulties.

Personal and Professional Development are highly valued and supported at our school.

There are no residential duties attached to this post.

For successful candidates we can offer employment in an exciting and vibrant, forward thinking school with focussed training and support.

Applicants wishing to gain experience of Asperger Syndrome, as well as those with an interest in Special Needs, are positively encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates will have to meet the person specification in order to be offered this post and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Cambian is an equal opportunities employer.
