Meaning that as a teacher in Fairview, at the end of your contract you gain:

  • 3 years of teaching in an international school as a Science teacher
  • 3 years teaching in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years programme
  • The Cambridge International Diploma for Teaching and Learning (CIDTL); awarded by the University of Cambridge International Examinations, UK
  • Master of Arts in Education; awarded by Sheffield Hallam University, UK
  • Eligibility to apply for the IB Professional Educator Certificate with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO)

As a Fairview teacher, you are BOTH a full-time Science teacher and a Masters student gaining both teaching experience and the opportunity to research on IB best practice in teaching to advance and contribute to the field of educational research.

Moreover, with access to Fairview’s multiple IB World Schools, data is not only collected across a single school environment but over several schools. Coupled with your data-driven research, your results are not only more reliable but also applicable throughout various educational settings.

Programme description

The three-year programme takes places over three phases.

In the first phase, you learn more about teaching in Fairview, teaching in an international school and teaching in the IB Middle Years Programme. This is especially beneficial for new teachers without formal training or experience in teaching, let alone teaching in an IB World School. At the end of this phase, you complete your first phase with the Cambridge International Diploma for Teaching and Learning (CIDTL) to be eligible to apply for the IB Professional Educator Certificate with the IBO.

The second phase focuses and prepares you in the theories and methodologies of research. The emphasis of the programme at this stage is to encourage an active approach to inquiring into your own teaching practice. You then develop and formalise your research area/interest and its proposal, and conduct a pilot study of your chosen methodology at the end of this phase.

Finally, in the third phase, you complete your research and write up your thesis. Throughout the second and third phase, you would be supervised by a faculty member approved by Sheffield Hallam University, specific to your research area.
