About us

Prendergast School is an Outstanding 11-16 Girls School with a mixed 6th Form and benefits from being part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools. Awarded its third Outstanding OFSTED grading in a row in November 2013, the school has been leading girls’ education in Lewisham for over 130 years.

Curriculum

Science has a role of great importance within the curriculum. The faculty is exceptionally well equipped with seven dedicated laboratories and a prep room. All labs are well provided with resources to ensure the delivery of a dynamic and exhilarating curriculum for our students, where practical investigation is placed at the heart of teaching and learning in order to engage and inspire our students as young scientists. We teach general science to KS3, then separate physics, chemistry, and biology from years 10 to 13. The importance of practical work in our curriculum means our technicians serve a key role. We use Lablogger to manage practical work within the department.

Facilities

The buildings are equipped with modern facilities with interactive smartboards and access to Chromebooks.

We offer:

  • A supportive and encouraging staff team.
  • The opportunity to access a wide range of CPD opportunities within and beyond school.
  • A school which understands the importance of staff well-being and workload management.
  • A positive ethos with excellent behaviour reinforced by a highly visible Headship Team and centralised behaviour systems.

Welcome to Prendergast School.  It is an honour and a privilege to be Prendergast School’s eleventh Headteacher and to work with staff, students and families.  Staff here are passionate about ensuring the very best opportunities and education for all students.  Our motto and ethos is ‘Truth, Honour, Freedom and Courtesy.’  We are all on the same side, working to support all students to excel.  We take pride in building strong relationships with students and their families.

We have a long history of providing exceptional education to young people.  We were founded in 1880 as Prendergast Grammar School for Girls on a site in Catford provided by the Leathersellers’ Company, which then funded the school’s move to its current site in 1995.

We are now part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of schools, a group of three secondary and two primary schools as well as Prendergast 6th Form.  We are very fortunate to be part of the Federation and receive a lot of support from the Leathersellers’ Company, that helps our students succeed.

We are very proud of our last Ofsted judgement of Outstanding in all areas, our third Outstanding judgement in a row. We are described in the most recent report as ‘exceptional’ and having ‘exemplary attitudes to learning’ across the school. We do achieve great academic results at Prendergast School (more information is on the website).

We value our talented and hardworking employees and know that in order to continue to succeed in our aims it is essential for us to support and develop them and ensure we continue to be a great place to work.

With this in mind we offer a number of employee benefits.
