Job overview

We are an Ofsted Outstanding, 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, we were rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2017 and are among the top schools for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire for GCSE results, including English and Maths. We are committed to developing our staff and we are delighted that after its latest inspection, Ofsted noted that ‘the support provided for teachers’ development is strong and wide ranging.’

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential. With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic excellence equally, creating an environment where every student can shine.

We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

Although we are Outstanding, we are constantly looking to improve. Help to take us to the next level.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

Outwood Academy Valley is looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational Second in Faculty to join our Computer Science and Business Studies department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people. Our single goal is ‘Students First’ and you will be joining a strong team of professionals working to this sole aim. As second in faculty with responsibility for Computer Science this post attracts a TLR of £3,214.

The Computer Science and Business Faculty consists of 5 members of staff; 2 specialist Business teachers, 2 specialist Computer Science teachers and a member of staff who teaches both subjects. There is a faculty lead and a second in faculty with the primary role of leading the Computer Science department. The trust also has a director of Computer Science to offer support, advice and resources when needed. Computer Science is taught one hour per week at KS3. We currently offer OCR GCSE Computer Science at KS4, and will be offering the WJEC IT course from next year. We share the teaching of Computer Science and IT at A level with Outwood Academy Portland, our sister school, where we currently have a total of 4 groups. In addition, we offer GCSE & A level Business, where we currently have 7 A level groups. In an OFSTED deep dive last year the Computer Science department was rated 'outstanding'.

If you are interested in joining our team, please contact Peter Jones, head of department, who would be pleased to tell you more, either by email, P.jones@valley.outwood.com or telephone (01909 475121), and we would be delighted to welcome you on a visit if you would like to see us in person
