The School

Now in its 3rd year of operation, the GEMS Cambridge International School, Nairobi offers the National Curriculum for England through the University of Cambridge Primary and Secondary programmes, the IGCSE and Advanced Level examinations as well as EdExcel BTEC vocational qualifications. From September 2014 the school is now a through-school for students from pre-Foundation Stage to Year 13.

The school is housed in a brand new, spacious, state-of-the-art campus, including a 400 seat auditorium and extensive sports facilities including a specialist running track, AstroTurf pitches and two swimming pools.  The school is located in a very pleasant and secure residential area of Karen, a suburb of the thriving city of Nairobi.  It also offers excellent boarding facilities.

The Post

As with all GEMS schools globally, we are seeking new or experienced professional Secondary Teacher-English who is or who aspires to be outstanding practitioner in the classroom.   We want a teacher who is willing to personalize learning for their students, who believe in the education of the whole child and are sympathetic to the GEMS core values that characterize our schools.  You will be required to participate in, and lead where appropriate, extra-curricular programmes in the school and assist in planning and organising of school events and functions (e.g. inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays and award evenings.)

Skills, Experience & Qualifications required:

  • Education/teaching degree OR first degree and teaching qualification/licence is essential
  • Degree/qualification related to subject; where appropriate an ability to teach the IGCSE and A Level curriculum
  • Imaginative teachers with a passion for teaching and learning and a strong subject knowledge
  • More than 1 language is desirable but not essential.
