Responsibilities

  • To assist the Secondary School Leadership Team (SSLT) in developing, implementing and maintaining a policy for the management and use of the Library, and as a resource which supports learning and teaching in the school, in collaboration with other staff.
  • To manage and organize resources, facilities and services provided by the Library and, in conjunction with the school management team, to allow flexible access and support for curricular activities, study support and independent use
  • To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the service provided by the Library and implement changes, where necessary, preparing a Library improvement plan, in order to meet new priorities in conjunction with the Principals and other staff.
  • To select, acquire, purchase, advise on the promotion of learning resources in all formats and recreational reading material which support the curriculum, learning and teaching and literacy, in consultation with school management and other teaching staff, ensuring equality of access for all pupils and staff. Select, acquire, maintain and withdraw library stock, ensuring a balance between subject, languages and ability levels and showing an active engagement in diversity and equality issues.
  • To index, catalogue and classify learning resources in the Library and develop and maintain accurate and reliable catalogue and lending systems.
  • To collaborate with teaching staff in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of relevant information and study skills programmes in the Library.
  • To promote the use of the Library and to the school community and foster an atmosphere which is conducive to positive learning experiences, i.e. investigation and research, for users of the service.
  • To maintain and facilitate access to the careers library.

Take on the role of the Extended Essay Coordinator

  • To discuss the choice of topic with the student and, in particular, help them to formulate a well-focused research question that satisfies appropriate legal and ethical standards (including health and safety, confidentiality, human rights, animal welfare, and environmental issues) as well as ensuring that the research conforms to the regulations as outlined in the Extended Essay Guide relating to essays written in the subject area.
  • To encourage and support the candidate throughout the research and writing of the extended essay, including advice and guidance on the following specific aspects of the EE:
  • Finding a suitable focus
  • Formulating a precise research question
  • Finding appropriate resources
  • Gathering and analyzing information/evidence/data
  • Documenting sources
  • Writing an abstract
  • To advise students on how to keep the essay compliant to the assessment criteria
  • To provide the candidate with advice and guidance regarding the skills necessary to undertake the research of the question and topic chosen for the extended essay
  • To ensure that the extended essay is the candidate’s own work
  • To read and comment on the first draft only of the extended essay (but does not edit the draft). Reads final draft to confirm authenticity
  • To complete the supervisor’s report upon submission of the extended essay, including a predicted grade for the student’s essay

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/ or abilities required.

  • Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in an IB international school system.
  • Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate program.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with other teachers and administrators.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Preferred: Graduate Diploma of Teacher Librarianship
