About us
Gorton Mount opened as an academy in September 2012 as part of the Bright Futures Educational Trust. The academy follows the 'Montessori' way of teaching, which fosters independence, confidence and curiosity in pupils.

At Gorton Mount Primary Academy we believe in educating the whole child. We trust each child’s natural curiosity and their innate desire to learn. We make sure that no child is left behind.

Gorton Mount Primary Academy is a Bright Futures Educational Trust school, meaning our children benefit from a world-class education that ensures that children have real choices open to them as they move to secondary school and beyond. Being a Bright Futures Educational Trust school means that our children and staff can access resources from across the Trust’s schools (e.g. specialist teachers) to help them to excel. Working with senior leaders in education, including our Executive Headteacher and Director of Education Gary Handforth, we are helping to raise aspirations and boost achievement in our children, helping them to get the most out of their time at our school.

Teachers have high expectations about academic standards and celebrate the progress, interests and achievements of each child. We offer a wide range of learning opportunities using Montessori techniques both during and after the school day including sporting activities, chances to perform and outdoor education experiences. We know that the breadth and depth of a well-constructed curriculum develops a child’s interest and motivates them to learn. Our curriculum provides a rigorous and structured learning environment for children; it allows them to learn at their own pace with one to one teacher direction.

Children are treated with respect, care and as individuals. We work hard to help children by meeting their needs and being their advocates. We know that each child has the capacity to be generous, courageous and compassionate. We foster these traits as we them as the most important elements in helping children to grow into adults who can behave honourably and make significant contributions to their communities.
