Job overview

SEN Teaching Assistants

We are looking for dynamic, energetic, flexible and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join our small, warm and friendly team due to an increase in our student numbers.

Full Time / Part Time: We are looking to recruit two full time TAs to join our team, we are open to exploring part time candidates if we can cover the two full time roles.

Your role will be to support teachers with classroom practice and pupils in their academic, social and emotional learning. You will be committed to providing the best opportunities for our rewarding but sometimes challenging group of learners and ensuring every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

We are located in three sites in the Finchley/Muswell Hill area. Our Lower School in North Finchley is conveniently situated opposite Woodside Park station (on the Northern Line), our Upper School is based at a lovely site in Muswell Hill and a newly refurbished site near Finchley Central.

The successful candidate will primarily be based at one site, however will be required to work at all The Holmewood School London campuses across North London and, as required, accompany students to external places of learning.

We can offer you the benefits of working to a school calendar with an average of a 37-week academic year and an excellent professional development package.

The Holmewood School is an independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged from 7 to 19 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our young people are broadly similar to their mainstream peers in their academic ability but require support with communication and interaction, executive functioning, anxiety, functional skills and other needs related to their diagnosis. Many of our young people also have a diagnosis of ADHD and/or dyslexia.

We were awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted following their visit in May 2022 and we are proud to have Advanced Accreditation Status granted by the National Autistic Society.

We are part of the Cavendish Group, a unique group of educational independent day and boarding schools. We work closely with the other schools in our group, have extensive community links and believe in ‘thinking differently’ and being as creative as possible in our teaching.

You must have experience of working with children and a personal or professional understanding of autism. A flexible approach, a sense of humour, reliability, punctuality, stamina, resilience and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

Interviews will be held at one of the The Holmewood School sites. Candidates who are successful at the interview stage will be invited to the school to spend time with our students in a lesson and complete a short written task.

Closing date: Tuesday 14th May 2024 at 10am

For more information please contact Alison Turner, HR Manager, on 020 8920 0660 or recruitment@thsl.org.uk or visit our website at www.thsl.org.uk

Candidates may be called to interview at any time if they meet our shortlisting criteria. Please apply early as the advertisement will be ended once posts are filled.

Full-time working hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and will be based primarily based at one of the three school sites but there will be requirement to work across all three sites to suit student need.

Applicants must be able to provide evidence of having the right to live and work in the UK at the time of application. We are unable to offer sponsorship for this post.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.

Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and online search prior to employment.

It is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

We encourage diversity in our staffing in order for children and young people to see themselves represented in society.
