Job overview

Ark Rose Primary Academy is a small, friendly school in Kings Norton. We opened in September 2012 as a non-selective, two-form entry community school for children between 3 and 11. At Ark Rose we have high expectations of all pupils and provide every opportunity for children to excel both academically and socially. We pride ourselves in striving for high attainment within a caring environment where we try and develop children’s individuality.

We are currently recruiting for a SENCO who will lead, develop and support effective practice for pupils with the full range of additional learning needs to ensure their needs are addressed in the most effective way and, where appropriate, they are able to make rapid progress in line with the academy’s expectations.

Ideal candidates will:

  • have excellent leadership and management skills
  • have experience of identifying, evaluating and providing effective strategies for pupils with SEN
  • be committed to Ark’s ethos of high expectations and no excuses
  • have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of pupils.

We are interested in hearing from both those who are qualified SENCOs as well as those who are keen to develop and gain their qualification whilst in post. The school is keen to support and facilitate completion of the SENCO qualification.

By joining Ark Rose Primary Academy you will part of the Ark network and benefit from excellent school-based and network-wide CPD opportunities as well as opportunities for international school visits.

If you are passionate, resilient and have a relentless drive to make a real difference, we want to hear from you.

Curriculum

At Ark Rose Primary Academy we believe in preparing our children for the future.  Our first priority is to build a secure foundation in literacy and numeracy as the basis for all other learning. Pupils are taught to read, write and work with numbers fluently and confidently. Where pupils need extra support it is provided to ensure that every child reaches and exceeds nationally expected standards.

Our English teaching focuses on speaking and listening, reading and writing using synthetic phonics and other reading strategies. We use the Read Write Inc. reading programme which is based on “synthetic phonics” that is, children learn what combinations of letters make all the different sounds in English and to blend these to make words and how to decode words when they see these combinations.

In Maths, we use Mathematics Mastery.  Mathematics Mastery focuses on identifying characteristics of effective practice in building pupils’ secure knowledge, skills and understanding of number so that they demonstrate fluency in calculating, solving problems and reasoning about number. Units are focused around Fairy Tales and Occupations so this enthuses the children and has helped to raise attainment.
