Job overview

We have a vacancy at Senior Assessment Manager level in the ATS test development and production unit. The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and production of a range of admissions tests. This will include work on our thinking skills assessments, and the development of new tests for applicants to arts, humanities and social sciences courses at HE institutions internationally. This is an excellent opportunity for a person with a background in education in the humanities or social sciences and an interest in assessment.

In this interesting and varied role, you will take responsibility for coordinating the production of question papers and online tests. This includes developing and refining test specifications, and liaising directly with clients which may include HE admissions tutors and government bodies to ensure assessments are fit for purpose. You will also manage item writer teams, and organise the editing, proofreading and pretesting of items. You will work with external consultants to ensure the accurate marking of candidate responses, participate in the grading of assessments, and be responsible for the production of materials to support candidates and teachers. You will be encouraged to engage in research associated with test validation, and to present to a range of audiences on issues relating to our admissions tests. A high standard of English, the ability to communicate well both in writing and verbally, and a keen eye for detail are essential requirements.

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent), have a teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or BEd) and preferably hold a higher degree in a relevant subject. Experience of preparing students for examinations or work as an examiner would be an advantage.

You will be adaptable, a quick learner, and feel comfortable with data and technology. You will have the desire to expand your knowledge of assessment through on-the-job training and by attending courses. In addition, you will have the ability to work well both in a team and independently and be keen to work in a busy office environment. Experience of meeting deadlines across multiple activities and excellent attention to detail are essential.

The Admissions Testing Service (ATS) is a part of Cambridge Assessment, a department of the University of Cambridge. We provide admissions tests for a range of subjects in Higher Education institutions in the UK and overseas, including the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA), the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT), the International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) and the Sixth Term Examination Paper in Mathematics (STEP).

The closing date for applications is 18 March 2015 and interviews will take place on 31 March 2015.
