The School of Education is one of the largest providers of teacher education in the country and has a long-standing reputation for producing outstanding teachers. As a result of the retirement of one of our subject leaders, and the continued expansion and development of our portfolio, we have a vacancy for a Senior Lecturer in Secondary Mathematics Education.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in Secondary schools as a subject specialist and school-based tutor/mentor, as well as having had successful experience providing professional training for colleagues. You may already be working in Teacher Education in an HEI or SCITT. A degree, QTS and a higher degree at Master’s level are essential. (Candidates working towards a higher degree may also be considered.)

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead on the development of teaching and training in Mathematics Education as part of the team working at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in our expanding Secondary ITE partnership. The School of Education offers a long-standing and successful PGCE in Mathematics and is a provider of choice for schools who are developing their practice through School Direct. A BSc in Mathematics with Secondary Education commences in September 2015. The University hosts Teach First for the West Midlands Region. Pre and Post-ITT provision in Mathematics is offered by the School of Education, working in partnership with a number of Teaching School Alliances across the region.

The post provides an ideal opportunity for an innovative curriculum leader to expand the subject within the University and within the School of Education’s partnership. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the wider work of the School and, in particular, how it relates to Mathematics Education. There is the expectation that the post holder will develop her/his research profile within the supportive environment of the School of Education.
