Job overview

Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) has a unique opportunity for an experienced headteacher/principal to join us as Senior Principal across the Alternative Provision (AP) academies and Managed Intervention Centres (MICs) in our London region. You will share our belief in the power of education to change lives for young people and relish the prospect of joining a trust that operates on the principle that every child deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their background.

You will be responsible for developing and sustaining exceptional educational provision to ensure every child in the OAT London AP academies gets a chance to thrive. You will provide the senior leadership to ensure that our AP academies are great places for pupils to learn, and where staff enjoy fulfilling careers. As a senior leader, you will play a key role within OAT, contributing to the development of our strategy and culture and role modelling our ethos of ‘Achieving More Together’. You will play an important leadership role – demonstrating the ability to lead and work successfully across the organisation, whilst being an ambassador for the trust and your schools within the sector.

Inclusion is at the heart of Ormiston Academies Trust. For this reason, we are committed to the delivery of excellent, children-first Alternative Provision (AP) as part of our vision, striving to ensure that all the children in our care, including those outside of mainstream education, can access the best educational opportunities.

Founded in 2009, Ormiston Academies Trust is one of the oldest and largest school trusts in the country, educating over 35,000 pupils in 42 schools with over 5,000 staff. We are one of the few national trusts in the school system with our schools spread across England in diverse locations such as Lowestoft, the Isle of Wight, Grimsby, Runcorn and in the West Midlands.

One of the key advantages of being part of our family is the extensive support system we provide. We believe in investing in our leaders, and as such, you can expect robust support from our experienced teams. When you join us, you’ll discover that OAT is a trust which cares about its people and has developed a range of opportunities and additional programmes from which you will benefit.

More information about this post and the role of senior leaders with the trust is available in the accompanying information pack. We would also encourage you to contact Wasim Butt, director of AP and special academies for an informal discussion about the role.  Please contact Wasim directly by emailing wasim.butt@ormistonacademies.co.uk

Closing date for applications is Friday 19th April 2024 (midday) with interviews expected to be held on 24th and 25th April 2024.

Ormiston Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. Ormiston Academies Trust embraces diversity and promotes equality of opportunity.

All successful appointments will be subject to suitability checks in accordance with KCSIE, including identity, Right to Work, qualifications, online searches, prohibition check, two references and enhanced DBS check including Children’s Barred List.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, which provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions, can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/new-guidance-on-the-rehabilitation-of-offenders-act-1974

Ormiston Beachcroft Academy is a primary and secondary alternative provision academy situated in Westminster. The academy supports learners who have experienced difficulties with their learning and behaviour in mainstream school. We also support learners with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan.

Learners are educated in small, well-supported groups and follow a broad curriculum of English, maths, science, ICT, humanities, PE, art, life skills/PHSE and food technology. Learners receive targeted support for literacy and numeracy and are able to access a range of therapeutic interventions. The academy was judged as good in all areas by Ofsted in 2016.

We work closely with secondary and primary schools in the borough to facilitate learners’ return to mainstream education whenever possible. Learners can gain a broad range of GCSEs or equivalent Level 2 qualifications by the end of Year 11. Learners can also attend college placements for a variety of vocational courses. Learners have individual learning plans to enable them to achieve to the best of their abilities and the academy rewards progress weekly so that even the smallest of steps are recognised. Learners take full advantage of the opportunities to widen their experiences in the local and wider area visiting museums and exhibitions and going on trips at the end of term as well as attending special programmes of activities during the holidays. The staff team works closely with parents/carers and outside agencies to make Ormiston Beachcroft Academy a safe and enjoyable place where pupils gain the skills and confidence for success in future life.
