Job overview

Based in either South East/Central England or Scotland, with occasional travel to London

Unicef ensures more of the world’s children are fed, vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. We have done more to influence laws, policies and customs to help protect children than anyone else in history.

Unicef UK raises money and campaigns to change children’s lives. Our Programmes team works to ensure the realisation of children’s rights in the UK, with a particular focus on embedding children’s rights in government and institutions, with the greatest impact on children.

Unicef UK’s Rights Respecting Schools (RRS) Programme is an innovative and creative programme that aims to embed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in the ethos and practice of schools. The vision of the Programme is that all children in the UK learn in a rights respecting school community where the CRC is fully embedded in values and practice. We are looking for a Senior Professional Adviser to promote the RRS Programme in schools and local authorities, and support schools to achieve and maintain their RRS status.

You will work in a designated region of England (London, South East England or the Central region) or in Scotland, and will contribute to the development, design and implementation of the RRS Programme, as well as promoting it. In addition to your own area of responsibility, you will line manage and have overall accountability for the development and quality of the RRS Programme across your cluster.

A confident and results-focused individual, you will have proven experience of working strategically at a senior level with children and young people in an educational setting, and of line management. You will also be an advocate for children’s rights, demonstrating a strong commitment to the CRC. Strong IT skills are essential, including the ability to work efficiently remotely and manage multiple demands and priorities.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of people, respecting and drawing on different perspectives, skills, experience and knowledge.

The successful candidate will be required to apply for an Enhanced check from the Disclosure & Barring Service. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the role and the circumstances of your offences.

We only accept online applications as this saves us money, making more funds available for us to help ensure children’s rights. CVs will not be accepted.

If you require support in completing the online form or an application form in an alternative format, please contact Supporter Care on 0300 330 5580.

If you do not hear from us within 14 days of the closing date, please assume your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. Please note that we only provide feedback to shortlisted candidates.
